Frictional Vibration Damper Patents (Class 188/381)
  • Publication number: 20130015029
Abstract: A semi-active device is used to damp vibrations moving relative to two elements between which the device is fixed. This device includes: a first member extending axially along a longitudinal axis; a second member extending axially along the same longitudinal axis, the two members being guided translatably relative to one another; a friction element extending between the two members and connecting them completely to each other by friction in an axial translational direction for any force below a threshold ‘s’, the force tending to create a relative translational movement of the two members along the longitudinal axis; an adjustment device enabling the value of the threshold to be adjusted. Thus adjusting the slip threshold of the friction element enables the dissipation conditions to be adjusted.

Abstract: A seismic isolation device includes a tabular base board having curved convex protrusions and a smooth sliding plate placed in such a way that a sliding contact surface thereof is made to abut the curved convex protrusions of the base board. An apparent friction coefficient (?) of only a high-friction portion on a sliding contact surface of the sliding plate with which the curved convex protrusion of the base board is in contact at rest initially is made higher than the apparent friction coefficient of a sliding surface as a portion other than the high-friction portion. Accordingly, the seismic isolation device is not swayed by minor vibrations such as mechanical vibrations, automobile traffic vibrations, and minor earthquakes, and the base board and the sliding plate are enabled when an earthquake of a seismic intensity of 5 or more occurs.

Abstract: A rotor is provided for use with a vehicle brake assembly that includes a forcing member operable to urge a friction member into mechanical communication with the rotor to thereby oppose movement of the same. The rotor includes a rotor body with an annular rim portion having first and second opposing contact faces. One or more loose-mass damper systems are interposed between the first and second contact faces, and operable to dissipate kinetic energy directly therefrom. Each of the loose-mass damper systems includes at least one mass operable to repeatedly impact against first and second inner faces respectively opposing the first and second contact faces to reduce oscillation of the rotor. Reducing oscillation of the rotor is independent of temperature and pressure. The loose-mass damper systems are preferably oriented proximate to an outer peripheral edge of the annular rim portion generally circumferentially equidistant from one another.

  • Patent number: 7549519
Abstract: A spool-shaped damper piston which is slideably mounted on a damper rod and has an external foam friction element engaging the inner surface of the cylindrical damper body. A pair of axially movable limiting disks are spaced from the spool-shaped damper a predetermined distance to allow movement of the damper rod a predetermined amount before the spool-shaped damper is engaged. In one embodiment, the disks include axially extending tabs which extend through slots in the ends of the spool and selectively engage the foam friction element when the motion of the damping rod exceeds a predetermined threshold. In another embodiment of the invention, the limiting disks include spring fingers extending between the disks and the spool ends to cushion the initial engagement between the disks and the spool as the free space threshold is exceeded.

Abstract: The invention relates to a bearing, in particular chassis bearing for the rear axle of a motor vehicle, with an outer bearing sleeve, an inner bearing sleeve, at least one elastomer body arranged between the outer and inner bearing sleeves and two chambers which are arranged laterally opposite each other on the outer bearing sleeve. The chambers each have an adjusting element. The adjusting elements are displaceable. When subjected to pressure, the adjusting elements are displaced inwardly against the inner bearing sleeve. The adjusting elements can be clamped in their axial position by clamping rings which can be reduced in size radially, for example by means of air pressure. The inner bearing sleeve is thereby fixed and the rigidity of the bearing increased.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a damper for washing machines. The damper comprises a cylinder and a piston interactively coupled to each other in a state wherein the cylinder is connected to a tub and the piston is connected to a base, a first friction member provided around the piston for generating a frictional force when the piston moves inside the cylinder, a slider coupled to the piston inside the cylinder so as to move together with the piston if the piston moves beyond a predetermined displacement range, and a second friction member provided around the slider for generating a frictional force when the slider moves inside the cylinder. The damper configured as stated above generates different damping forces according to the vibration degrees of the tub, thereby effectively attenuating the vibration of the tub.

Abstract: Provided is a shim structure adapted to be interposed between a friction member and a forcing member configured to urge the friction member against a rotating member of a brake system. The shim structure includes a sheet member having opposing first and second surfaces defining a substantially uniform thickness of sufficient magnitude to not deform during urging of the friction member. There is no viscoelastic layer on the first or second surfaces. The first and second surfaces also define a waveform cross-section having an amplitude and a wavelength extending substantially the entire length of the sheet member; the amplitude and wavelength are of sufficient ratio to provide selective noise and vibration damping, isolation, and thermal dissipation for the brake system. Additionally, the amplitude and wavelength are configured to be variably tunable, providing different predetermined levels of noise and vibration absorption and attenuation. The wave-form cross-section is preferably sinusoidal.
