Abstract: A disc brake having an anchor bracket fixed to a vehicle, a rotor fixed to and rotatable with a wheel and a caliper that spans the disc and supports a pair of opposed braking pads with respect to the rotor. Parallel alignment members fixed to the caliper and having a corresponding set of generally parallel bores for receiving the alignment members in the anchor bracket to allow limited relative movement and caliper translation during a brake application and subsequent release. Plastic inserts disposed intermediate an alignment member and a corresponding bore to provide a desired minimum running clearance there between. The plastic inserts being formed and remaining in situ within the respective bores through a sprues or gate that extend from and are generally transversely to a bore to align the alignment members with the bores and corresponding the braking pads with the rotor.

  • Patent number: 7284642
Abstract: The invention relates to a disc brake, especially for a utility vehicle, said disc brake comprising a caliper which is provided with a brake disc able to interact with brake linings and is fixed to a brake anchor plate in such a way that it can be axially displaced in relation to the brake disc. To this end, guiding struts on which the caliper is guided are fixed to the brake anchor plate, each guiding strut being enveloped by bellows fixed on both sides, in the region formed between the caliper and the brake anchor plate. The inventive disc brake is embodied in such a way that the peripheral head regions of the folds of the bellows facing the guiding strut have a peripheral contour deviating from the circumference of the guiding strut.

  • Patent number: 6926124
Abstract: A floating disk brake having a caliper designed so as to be movable more freely in the radial direction of the rotor following any run-out or thermal expansion of the rotor and movable less freely in the tangential direction of the rotor to reduce uneven wear of the pads, thereby prolonging the life of the pads and reducing the possibility of fading at minimum cost. The caliper is supported on a mount through slide guides so as to be slidable in the direction of the axis of the rotor of the brake. The slide guides each include a slide pin fixed to the caliper, and a pin hole formed in the mount to receive the slide pin. A first clearance is defined between the mount and the caliper in a direction tangential to the rotor, and a second clearance is defined between the slide pin and the pin hole of each slide guide such that the first clearance is smaller than the second clearance.

  • Patent number: 6609593
Abstract: A protective boot having a bellows portion, a cylindrical portion, a guide-bore-side mounting portion, a thick-walled portion, a thin-walled portion, a pin-side mounting portion and an air passage groove. In an operation for mounting of the protective boot, the pin-side mounting portion is inclined radially inward through the thin-walled portion while being slidably moved along the sliding pin, to thereby effect an escape of air contained in an annular space between the sliding pin and the boot through the air passage groove. The thick-walled portion prevents the pin-side mounting portion from bending radially inward to an undesirable extent. Thus, the operation for mounting of the protective boot can be smoothly conducted.

  • Publication number: 20030111305
Abstract: A torque sensing apparatus for use with a brake caliper having opposing brake pads positioned on opposite sides of a rotor. The brake caliper causes the brake pads to apply a braking force against the rotor that generates a braking torque. A torque transfer device is supported by the brake caliper and is in contact with one of the brake pads. The torque transfer device is resiliently movable with respect to the brake caliper in response to the braking torque. A torque sensor is positioned in a sensing relationship relative to the torque transfer device. Thus, the torque sensor provides an output signal related to a change of position of the torque transfer device and the braking torque. The torque sensor includes a magnet mounted on the torque transfer device and a magnet field sensor, for example, a Hall Effect sensor, is mounted on the brake caliper.

Abstract: A sliding caliper disc brake for a motor vehicle having a disc, a carrier (2), a caliper (3) and pads (52). The carrier (2), respectively, provides bearing surfaces (61b, 63b) for the caliper (3) and pads (52) having a non-zero angle (Ab) which opposes rotational movement between the caliper (3) and pads (52) when the disc turns in a direct sense (D).
