The caliper further includes an outer portion formed with a second cylinder, and a bridge portion connecting the inner and outer portions together and having an annular inner surface defining a corner. The disk brake further includes pistons each received in one of the first and second cylinders, a disk rotor fastened to a wheel of the vehicle and disposed between the pistons, and friction pads disposed between the disk rotor and the pistons so as to be movable toward and away from the disk rotor.

Abstract: A mounting bracket apparatus for a disc brake of a vehicle is provided for measuring torque in a disc brake mounting bracket. The invention includes a bracket capable of being secured to a non-rotatable part of a vehicle. The bracket includes first and second caliper bracket abutments and a cross member extending in the direction of the rotational axis of the disc. The cross member joins the first and second caliper bracket abutments at respective first and second corner-shaped portions. A force sensor is located adjacent the first corner-shaped portion of the bracket adapted to sense strain in the first corner-shaped portion.

Abstract: An opposed piston type disc brake comprising an outer body, an inner body, cylinders, pistons, and pads. A rotor rotates together with a wheel being interposed between the outer and inner bodies. The cylinders are opposed to each other and arranged in both outer and inner bodies. The pistons are fluid-tightly arranged in the cylinders and capable of being freely displaced in the axial direction of the rotor. The pads are supported by the inner and outer bodies and capable of being freely displaced in the axial direction of the rotor. The outer and inner bodies are made separately from each other. The outer body includes a main body, a connecting portion, and an attaching portion. The main body is provided with the cylinders. The connecting portion extends from both end portions of the main body in the axial direction of the rotor and straddles the rotor.
