  • Patent number: 9003609
Abstract: The device for producing a uniform or profiled fleece or a fiber flock mat includes a material dispensing device which produces a fleece and a transport device for the further transport of the fleece. The device also includes a measuring device to determine a transverse profile and a longitudinal profile of the fleece by measuring the mass per unit area of the fleece across its width, and a profile-changing device for supplying individualized fibers or fiber flocks to the fleece. A control unit controls the profile-changing device on the basis of the results of the measuring device in such a way that the profile-changing device supplies the individualized fibers or fiber flocks section by section in a targeted manner. Thus, depending on the purpose of the application, a uniform fleece or a fleece with a nonuniform transverse profile or longitudinal profile can be produced.

  • Patent number: 8381375
Abstract: A crosslapper receives a card web and folds it into a lap intended to be needle-punched or consolidated by other ways. The web includes zones which are more condensed, having a spectrum of orientation of fibers with a component parallel to the width of the web, alternating with less condensed zones having a longitudinal unidirectional spectrum of orientations. The zones which are less condensed are used to form the edge zones of the lap. The result is that the lap has different respective spectra of orientation which pre-compensate for the unwanted changes produced by the needle-punching or other consolidation which follows. A needle-punched lap is obtained having a uniform MD/CD ratio (relationship between longitudinal and respectively transverse tensile strengths) or having a sought profile of the MD/CD ratio across the width of the lap.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a fibrous structure is particularly, though not exclusively, applicable to the manufacture of friction products such as preform discs. The method comprises mounting a former on a shaft. First feeds of fibrous material are spaced along the shaft and applied to the former in a direction tangential to the shaft as the shaft is rotated. A second feed is also applied to the former in a direction substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the shaft. The fibrous materials in the feeds overlie as the shaft rotates and the thickness of the material applied to the former increases to form the fibrous structure. Lengths of the first and/or second feeds are then inserted into the fibrous structure body in a radial direction with respect to the shaft as the shaft is rotated to interconnect the overlying layers and hold the structure together.

  • Patent number: 5233727
Abstract: In a textile fiber preparation machine, thickness and/or unevenness characteristics of a lap (W) formed by a web or wadding of textile fibers being fed in the machine are determined for individual longitudinal strips spaced across the width of the lap. A plurality of individual sensors (2) are arranged next to one another over the width of the lap (W) and press the lap (W) against a stationary guide (4,5, 6--6'). Each of the sensors (2) is movable toward and away from the guide and is resiliently biased toward the guide. The amount of movement of an individual sensor (2) away from the guide by the lap is a measure of the thickness of the lap portion being contacted by that sensor. The use of individual sensors arranged end to end across the width of the lap improves sensitivity so that even brief changes in thickness when the lap has a high transport speed can be measured reliably. Furthermore, the apparatus can be adapted quickly and simply to changing lap widths.

Abstract: In order to extract fiber flocks from individual textile fiber bale groups with a substantially constant extraction power independently of density variation distribution over the bale height, the individual bale groups are subdivided into a plurality of height zones exhibiting different densities of fiber material. Then, an extracting member provided with a rotating extraction head is moved through the upper zone with a relatively large penetration depth, while the penetration depth is gradually reduced during the movement of the extracting member through the next lower zone until the penetration depth desired for the next following lower zone is reached, from which point this penetration depth is maintained until reaching the lowermost zone during the movement through which the penetration depth is again gradually increased until the last layer to be extracted is reached.

Abstract: An arrangement for continuously determining the density of an elongated strip-shaped web of fiber sliver in the course of a spinning process in order to generate control signals for use in controlling the operation of machine elements operative for equalizing the distribution of the fiber sliver includes two of stepped rollers which together delimit, at a their nip region, a confining space for the passage of the fiber sliver web therethrough. One of the rollers is mounted on a support for rotation about a stationary axis and is driven in rotation, while the other roller is mounted on the support for free rotation about another axis which is parallel to the stationary axis and defines an imaginary plane therewith, as well as for movement along the imaginary plane against a spring force away from the one roller, so that the fiber sliver is compressed and moves the other roller to a greater or lesser degree away from the one roller as it passes through the confining space, depending on its density.

  • Patent number: 4543690
Abstract: An apparatus as disclosed for controlling the distribution of fibers in a fiber felt forming process, which comprises a guide duct through which a gas current with felt fibers entrained is directed. The gas passes through a perforated conveyor, which retains the fibers. The duct is caused to oscillate by a connecting rod affixed to the guide duct and a rotary element by universal joints at either end, connection being effected by cardans, by which the rotary element entrains the connecting rod in its rotary movement. By moving the axis of rotation of the rotary element away from the center of the guide duct/connecting rod joint, an oscillating movement is imparted to the guide duct. The entire apparatus, including a motor for inducing rotary movement may be caused to undergo translational movement by a pair of opposed hydraulic jacks, the operation of which may alter the median direction of the movement of the oscillating guide duct.

  • Patent number: 4520531
Abstract: An apparatus for making a web of fibers has an upright and horizontally elongated supply duct having an upper end, an open lower end, and a foraminous side wall. Fibers are fed to the upper end of the supply duct so that they descend in this duct as a ribbon-shaped web. An upright and horizontally elongated forming duct has an upper end receiving the fiber web from the supply duct, a lower end, and a foraminous side wall. Gas is made to flow down in the ducts and through the foraminous side walls thereof to shape the web and advance it to the respective lower ends. Rollers are provided at the lower end of the forming duct for withdrawing the web therefrom. One or more sensors measure the thickness of the web at a plurality of sensing locations spaced transversely along the web downstream of the lower end of the forming duct. Respective individually operable flow-adjusting means can vary the gas flow in one of the ducts at respective zones spaced transversely across the web like the sensing locations.
