  • Patent number: 11473215
Abstract: A system and method includes a seed roll of a saw type gin stand which can easily be inspected in an efficient and safe manner within the normal course of operation. The monitoring of the seed roll is desirable for prediction of irregularities that could significantly hamper the production of a ginning facility. This monitoring can take place by manual inspection with the eye or touch of the operator. In addition, this feature will facilitate the opportunity to introduce a new automatic process by which the control system can monitor the seed roll in order to improve overall productivity of the gin stand.

  • Patent number: 5697126
Abstract: A device for removing foreign matter that collects on a cleaning bar in an apparatus for cleaning fibers of material. The device includes a scraper slidably mounted on a cleaning bar, such as a grid bar in a lint cleaner for scraping foreign matter and lint off the grid bar when the scraper slides along the length of the grid bar. The scraper includes a scraper bar that is in sliding contact with a top surface of the grid bar. The edges of the scraper may be sharp to improve the scraping efficiency. A scraper back plate extends from the scraper bar. The scraper and back plate are mounted on the grid bar using a guide block so that the scraper is slidable along a length of the grid bar. A guide rail may be mounted first on the grid bar to facilitate mounting of the scraper on the grid bar.

  • Patent number: 4771596
Abstract: A fine heterogeneous hybrid spun yarn is blended from electrostatically conductive staple fibers and electrostatically non-conductive staple fibers so that the yarn is electrostatically conductive only over short discrete lengths. When used in pile fabrics, such as carpets, the fine yarn is introduced with at least some of the carpet facing yarns during the carpet making operations. The resultant carpet structure substantially eliminates electrostatic shock to a human walking across the carpet and approaching a ground such as a light switch, radio, or another person. Such a carpet does not constitute a dangerous floor covering. The unique heterogeneous hybrid spun blended yarn is achieved by process techniques completely contrary to accepted blending practices.

  • Patent number: 4670944
Abstract: Cotton burrs and other trash from a cotton gin are processed by first passing them over a small screen to remove sand and other fine material. Thereafter, the burrs and other trash are ground in a hammer mill. After grinding, the material passed along a large screen having about 3/8" opening. Substantially all the burrs and trash will pass through the screen except for cotton lint which will not. The burrs and trash, without the lint, is then sized by screening through screens with successively smaller openings. The burrs and trash of any one size is further separated by air classification. The resulting product is a combination of three geometric shapes, fibers, flakes, and granules. The resulting product is a lignocellulose product having softwood lignin precursors.

  • Patent number: 4528050
Abstract: Filler material, particularly for cigarette filters, is produced by feeding a first stream of substantially continuous filaments of filler material onto a pin roller which is driven at a speed such that the filaments are broken by the pins into irregular lengths and are projected from the roller in random orientations. The broken filaments are collected on a carrier stream, also comprising filamentary material, for delivery to a rod-making unit. More than one stream could be supplied to the pin roller so that the broken filaments can comprise a mixture of filaments of different filler materials. The carrier stream may comprise filler material which is different from that in the first stream and may comprise a fibrillated web.

  • Patent number: 4210075
Abstract: The bottom of a lint feeder housing is manufactured such that the high speed belt which it houses is quickly and easily changed. The bottom of the housing is lowered after loosening the four hinged thumb bolts which secure the bottom to the housing. After the bottom is lowered, the axles which support conveyor rollers are lowered a little on one side. The worn belt is removed and a new belt is slipped between the axles and the frame of the housing then over the rollers. Once the new belt is in place, the axles are raised and the bearing housings are fixed to the feed housing. Finally, the bottom of the housing is raised and secured in place.

  • Patent number: 4102017
Abstract: A cotton lint cleaner having a number of new and unique features. The lint cleaner uses a common air stream laden with cotton to be cleaned through a moving screen and then through feed rollers to a cylindrical saw, where a centrifugal air flow doffing impeller doffs the cleaned cotton from said saw, for discharge from the device. Special spring biased feed bars are also a part of this invention. Additional features include special grid bars, special settling and collection chambers, guide vane structure, a rotating paddle wheel vacuum lock, an adjustable vacuum valve control, and filtering and discharging of the exhaust air flow through a cover over the operating drives for the overall machine in order to exclude contamination from the outside air of said drive components. Special tension mountings for the grid bars are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4070730
Abstract: An improvement in the production of chopped fibers is provided. Long fibers, commmonly in the form of roving, are fed through a chopper assembly comprising a cutter wheel having a plurality of outwardly-extending blades and a back-up roll having a soft cylindrical surface which the blade edges contact with the fibers therebetween. The chopped fibers then are directed downwardly through a discharge chute to a distribution chute below the chopper where they are directed by air to a point of application, e.g. being mixed with resin and applied to a surface of a mold or mandrel. The chopper fibers have had a tendency to agglomerate into hunks or balls below the chopper assembly and such tendency has heretofore been substantially reduced by the use of static bars located below the chopper assembly. An air system is now provided for directing air downwardly past the chopper assembly to convey the chopper fibers therefrom through the discharge duct and the distribution chute.

  • Patent number: 4014648
Abstract: A continuous in-line flock cutting process is disclosed, for making flock from tow which contains a lubricant which is detrimental to the flock and must be removed. The tow is continuously fed, heat treated and immersed in an aqueous scouring liquid, and is continuously wet-processed. The excess scouring liquid is squeezed out, the tow is rinsed with water, rinse water is squeezed out, and a finish is applied to the tow and partially squeezed out in an in-line continuous process to remove a portion of the applied finish. Thus processed, the still-wet tow is continuously cut into wet flock, the wet flock is then dried and beaten to open up and separate the individual flock particles, and screened.
