  • Patent number: 4966260
Abstract: A travel bag has a plurality of internal compartments and can be reformed to provide different configurations for those compartments. In one configuration, four compartments are arranged side-by-side, with the pairs of compartments being mirror images of one another. The inner compartments enclose cavities which are pointed at their upper and bottom ends, while the outer compartments are expanded to have a rectangular cross-sectional configuration. Dart-like seams formed at corners of the outer expanded compartments maintain the rectangular cross-sectional configuration. The opposing compartment pairs are joined together by upper and lower wall portions forming a hinged connection therebetween. A first sliding fastener provides access to both inner compartments, while second and third sliding fasteners provide access to respective outer compartments. The three sliding fasteners are arranged parallel to each other so as to be upwardly facing.

  • Patent number: 4856306
Abstract: A double zipper lock for a luggage case comprises a base with a housing containing a combination lock, and a U-shaped loop adapted to embrace the housing. Arms of the loop are pivotally mounted on opposite ends of the housing and a bight portion of the loop cooperates with portions of the base to form chambers that, when closed, trap zipper sliders. When the combination lock is set on-combination, the user may lift the loop, to free the sliders, by engaging the bight portion with the fingers of a hand and using the thumb to press a manual actuator inwardly of the housing. The actuator is part of a bolt that is supported for pivotal and translational movement. The translational movement, which is permitted only when the lock is on-combination, causes pivotal movement of a latch member from a latching position to an unlatching position. In the latching position, the latch member prevents lifting of the loop.

  • Patent number: 4817769
Abstract: The invention relates to a novel covered zipper assembly for the top of a portfolio with two heavy duty magnetic catches, one at each end thereof and being secured between the portfolio panels at the top to hide the zipper from view. A combination lock cooperating with a hasp protrudes from one end to be inserted into a catch portion at the side of the portfolio whereby the pull tab of the zipper can be grasped to slide open the top of the portfolio. Lock means, preferably combination lock means, are provided at the hasp. The covering is preferably constructed of high grade leather which is fastened by sewing to the other side panels of the portfolio at the top inner edges thereof. Easy access to the top of the portfolio for opening is not readily suggested by observing from the top because the cover assembly hides the zipper from view.

  • Patent number: 4703519
Abstract: A sewn polyolefin in fabric bag which uses the molded shapes of the polyolefin material to form a shaped enclosure. Enclosure means and a fabric hinge are sewn directly to the polyolefin enclosure means to form the completed bag. The bags formed in this manner have many of the advantages of both soft and hard shelled bags. The polyolefin material is capable of providing a predetermined shape but has a soft exterior surface and is deformable. Sewing can be done using conventional sewing techniques. Polyolefin materials have not previously been usable in this manner because of their inability to bond or weld in reliable manner to other materials.
