Patent number: 5355996Abstract: Highly compressed ceramic fiber conveyor rolls can provide desirable insulation coupled with extended wear for roller conveying of high temperature articles such as freshly made sheet glass. However, under harsh industrial conditions, as experienced with the conveying of heavy loads consistently at the upper end of operable temperature ranges, such ceramic fiber rolls may be subject to premature wear at the interface between an inner shaft and an outer ceramic fiber roll cover, as well as experience longitudinal roll cracking of the cover. It has now been found that both of these potential cover problems can be successfully addressed by placement within the cover of perforated, rigid disks. Such disks placed occasionally along the roll and within ceramic fiber cover, are particularly suitable for use with hardened covers, where the hardening is more concentrated towards the surface of the cover and the disks are present within a softer inner fiber core of the cover.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1993Date of Patent: October 18, 1994Assignee: Global Consulting, Inc.Inventor: Charles M. For the roller cover, at least substantially ceramic fiber is highly compressed, providing a dense and refractory, elevated temperature resistant insulating cover. The cover may itself serve as a load bearing surface; or may provide a foundation or protective media for annular discs or sleeve members made of various, load bearing materials. These load bearing materials may be unable to resist direct contact with the shaft due to thermal shock or the differences in their respective expansion and contraction rates. Where impregnant is utilized with the highly compressed fiber, such will often comprise a colloidal substituent.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1991Date of Patent: April 27, 1993Assignee: ELTECH Systems CorporationInventors: Charles M. Patent number: 5139134Abstract: A weldable urethane roller sleeve, and method of fabricatingly installing the same, on site without having to remove the rollers from a machine in order to accomplish installation upon either powered or idler rollers of a roll conveyancing machine of that type typically employed in shear line applications to accomplish movement of reinforcing rods to and from a cutting station, wherein the inside diameter of the roller sleeve which is installed is oversized to be slightly larger than that of the outside diameter of the roller upon which it is installed, thereby enabling the roller sleeve to rotate upon the roller as the roller rotates, which in turn results in reduced wear and impact damage to the roller sleeve since it rotationally displaces with the moving product during the conveyancing thereof.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1991Date of Patent: August 18, 1992Assignee: KRB Machinery Co.Inventor: Robert L. Patent number: 5137142Abstract: A low mass transport shaft is formed by crimping a thin wall tube to form two opposed grooves along the length of the shaft. The two grooves impart rigidity to the tube structure enabling it to be used for such purposes as a paper transport shaft. In the embodiment shown, a pair of feed rollers are rigidly attached along predetermined points on the shaft, the rollers rotate with the shaft, and serve to move objects in contact therewith such as paper along a predetermined path.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1990Date of Patent: August 11, 1992Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Richard E. Patent number: 5111930Abstract: A composite table roll for use in roll tables in metal rolling mills, particularly for handling hot metal workpieces, having a sleeve portion which is tightly secured to an underlying arbor only at the axial mid-portion so that the end-portions of the sleeve are not in contact with the arbor sufficient to cause any significant heat conductivity thereacross and the end-portions are free to thermally expand with reference to the arbor to thereby greatly minimize any thermal distortion of the arbor in the event a hot metal workpiece becomes stalled on the roll table.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1991Date of Patent: May 12, 1992Assignees: International Rolling Mill Consultants, Inc., United Engineering, Inc.Inventors: Vladimir B. Patent number: 5103955Abstract: A conveyor system includes a base member affording a bottom member of a track having an entry end and an exit end, between which articles are required to be conveyed. The base member is provided with a plurality of sockets at respective mutually spaced locations distributed longitudinally and transversely of the track, each socket having a load supporting member mounted therein so as to be independently rotatable about an axis of location extending transversely to the track. A mounting rotatably carries the load supporting member and cooperates with the socket, each such mounting comprising a pair of separate mounting parts. The mounting parts are engaged with opposite end portions of the load supporting member so as to carry the load supporting member between the mounting parts for rotation about the axis.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1990Date of Patent: April 14, 1992Assignee: Conveyer Units LimitedInventor: Edward W. Patent number: 5076412Abstract: A caster roller unit for a freight conveyor track includes first and second support rollers to support the freight articles from below. The rollers are mounted on a roller carrier rotatably independently of each other about horizontally extending, mutually aligned axes. The roller carrier is supported on a stationary housing base member by a ball bearing assembly rotatably about a vertical axis which is eccentric with respect to the axis of the rollers. The roller carrier, for each of the support rollers, has an upwardly open bearing shell member in the form of a cylinder portion accommodating a plurality of bearing needles on which the respective support roller is rotatably disposed and the longitudinal axes of which are oriented parallel to the horizontally extending axis of rotation of the respective support roller.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1990Date of Patent: December 31, 1991Assignee: Bavaria Cargo Technologie GmbHInventor: Thomas Huber

Patent number: 5056642Abstract: A roller track for a storage rack arranged for gravitational flow of load-bearing pallets. Freely rotatable rollers are journalled, each on a spindle, between two parallel walls. Rollers of a first group are journalled on spindles bolted to the walls. Rollers of a second group are journalled on spindles held by but not bolted to the walls. Each of the latter spindles has, at each end, a shoulder portion larger than an aperture in one of the walls and a pintle portion fitted into the aperture. The pintle portion has a cylindrical wall and the aperture has a cylindrical margin. Along at least a substantial portion of the roller track, every third roller is a roller of the first group while every other roller is a roller of the second group.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1990Date of Patent: October 15, 1991Assignee: Unarco Industries, Inc.Inventor: Charles E.
