Abstract: An apparatus for sorting identical flat-bottomed objects has a vibratory conveyor defining a generally horizontal support surface. A plurality of the objects are supplied to an upstream end of the surface standing on their flat bottoms and the objects travel along the surface while standing on their bottoms. A sorting drum rotatable about a horizontal axis at a downstream end of the conveyor is formed with at least one row of radially outwardly open seats generally complementary to the objects and each having a flat floor. The drum is rotated between a pickup position in which the flat floors of the one row of seats are aligned and generally coplanar with the support surface and closely juxtaposed with the downstream end and a handoff position with the one row of seats raised up above the support surface. • Patent number: 7036654
Abstract: A conveyor includes elongated and curved first and second structural beams. Each beam includes a plurality of support tabs projecting outwardly therefrom in opposite directions and the tabs support a corresponding endless belt along the entire length thereof. The two belts operatively connect to at least one drive mechanism and define a conveying path from a first end of the beams to the opposite end. The beams are oriented such that the spacing between the two belts remains relatively uniform along the conveying path. The size, shape, orientation, and spacing of the support tabs cause the endless belts to twist in orientation, preferably by about 180° between entrance and exit ends of the conveying path. During driving of the belts, the belts cause an article held therebetween to change angular orientation as the belts convey the article from the entrance to the exit of the conveying path.

  • Patent number: 6568523
Abstract: The invention is an automatic, unmanned, powered, variable speed finger joint machine infeed apparatus which receives a random and haphazard delivery of blocks from a controllable supply conveyor. An intermittently operable infeed conveyor moves blocks from the supply conveyor to an unscrambler, through which a slat chain travels and picks up blocks. The slat chain is composed of two chain loops, connected at regular, equal intervals by slats. The unscrambler partially singularizes and orientates blocks transversely to the direction of travel and the slat chain pushes blocks over an even ending conveyor which aligns them to the inside of one of the chains. The slat chain pushes the even ended blocks under a block hold down, which allows excess blocks to drop out of the system, and then over a moisture detecting system.

  • Patent number: 5906264
Abstract: An automated apparatus for orienting truss plates, and in particular truss plates, such as those greater than 6 inches in width, that are typically formed from a single sheet of steel, comprises: a generally horizontally-disposed platform shelf; first and second receiving channels; a sweeper block; and a reciprocal movement unit for reciprocally moving the sweeper block. The platform shelf, which is positioned to receive truss plates from a truss plate forming unit, has an upper face and a pair of opposed lateral edges. The receiving channels are positioned laterally of a respective one of the platform shelf lateral edges and below its upper face. Each of the receiving channels is sized and configured such that a truss plate falling from the upper face and received therein takes and maintains an orientation in which the backing member of the truss plate is generally upright. The sweeper block is positioned above the upper face.

Abstract: An apparatus (1) for upending and transporting bottles (2) in continuous cycle is utilized especially in continuous cycle bottling plants using plastic bottles. The apparatus (1) comprises a horizontal axis (X) tubular body (70) having a guide (7) constituted by a slot (71) in a wall thereof, which slot (71) is of a breadth such as to permit passage of a neck (20) of a bottle (2). The slot (71) has an intermediate portion (71b) winding helically about the tubular body (70) by an angle equal to half a revolution. A bottle feed line (3) feeds the bottles (2) one at a time to the apparatus (1). Internally of the tubular body (70) a drive screw is rotatable about its axis (X) to engage the bottles (2) by the necks (20) thereof, urging them along the guide (7).

  • Patent number: 5630496
Abstract: An apparatus for receiving, in an infeed section, a stream of distributed items deposited in rows of like position. A slide mechanism is is selectively movable between a slide position and a flip position. In the slide position, the item drops off the edge of the belt and slides across the primary slide surface and onto a second slide mechanism having a secondary slide surface that is positioned to be in substantially the same plane as the primary slide surface. The slide mechanism is moved into the flip position for every other row of items. The items to be flipped come off the conveyor belt and come into contact with an abutting surface. This surface changes the direction of the item as it moves towards the transport mechanism in conjunction with a reverse slide surface of the second slide mechanism. The item slides down the reverse slide surface on its top surface, thus flipping over approximately 180.degree. from its orientation on the infeed conveyor belt.

  • Patent number: 5612765
Abstract: A carrier device can receive cartridges each containing a film from a lateral direction and send them reliably, efficiently and continuously to a photoprinting machine in a straight line, while holding them in position with an arm. Cartridges are supplied one by one into the carrier device from a cartridge housing device located at the side of the carrier device. A cartridge set in a carriage or the carrier device is retained in position by the arms and transferred to the printing machine by driving the carriage with a motor of a driving unit along a guide path. The carriage has a cartridge retaining mechanism and an arm locking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5609237
Abstract: A tipping device includes a plurality of upper rod sections which curve to cause the tipping of the container from the vertical to the horizontal, and a single lower straight rod which does not bend or otherwise follow any curved path with respect to the tipping angle of the container. A plurality of spaced vertical plates are arranged along the length of the device to provide structural support to the rod sections. The vertical plates have an interior section that is cut out to conform to the shape of the cylindrical container passing therethrough. The vertical plates are mounted upon a deck that extends the length of the device. A container enters the device at the upstream end of the device by a conveyer. At the downstream end of the device is another conveyor for discharge of the containers. A plurality of blower jets are positioned along the length of the device which cause air to strike against the containers to provide a downstream force to move them through the tipping device to the downstream end.
