Publication number: 20080141434Abstract: A method for manufacturing an evaporative cooling garment uses discrete units of a liquid-retentive material formed from the liquid-retentive material in its natural state. The discrete units may be pellets, tablets, or liquid-soluble pouches or capsules. In the preferred embodiment granulated water-absorbent polymer crystals are formed into capsules. The capsules are then sealed in one or more chambers in the garment.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 4, 2007Publication date: June 19, 2008Inventors: Kevin Pringles, Linda Cook

Patent number: 6611960Abstract: A neck collar and method are described for a two-ply neck collar for attachment to a neck opening of a garment body to help maintain a proper shape along the neck line. In one embodiment, the two-ply neck collar is made of two strips of knitted fabric material. The two strips of fabric material is sewn together along the top edge portions thereof such that one strip is lying flat against the other strip to form a joined unit. The joined unit is then opened flat to define two side edge portions with the stitched portion disposed extending longitudinally between to the two side edge portions. The joined unit is folded after being opened flat such that the two side edge portions are aligned with the stitched portion facing outward, after which, the two side edge portions are sewn together to form a tubular unit. Finally, the neck collar is formed by turning at least a portion of the tubular unit over the stitched portion.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2001Date of Patent: September 2, 2003Inventor: Chin-Young Kim

Publication number: 20020120974Abstract: A shirt collar in which the material forming at least the neckband, but alternatively both the neckband and the collar, is made of a stretchable material that yields in a circumferential direction when a circumferential tensile force is applied thereto, and which shrinks only negligibly in a circumferential direction in the event of shrinkage of the neckband. In a preferred embodiment, the neckband is made of a woven fabric comprised of warp and weft threads, with at least some of the threads arranged on a bias so that in the event the length of the threads shrinks there is only a negligible reduction in the circumferential size of the collar, and the collar is stretchable in a direction parallel to the circumferential direction. In another form of the invention, the neckband is made of a non-elastomeric material that has a plurality of holes in it which elongate when a tensile force is applied circumferentially to the neckband, resulting in elongation of the neckband.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2002Publication date: September 5, 2002Inventors: Arthur A. Publication number: 20010003850Abstract: A shirt collar in which the material forming at least the neckband, but alternatively both the neckband and the collar, is arranged with the weave thereof on a bias so that in the event the length of the threads shrinks there is only a negligible reduction in the circumferential size of the collar, and the collar is stretchable in a direction parallel to the circumferential direction. The stitching that forms the seams attaching the collar to the neckband, and the neckband to the body of the shirt, may be applied in a pattern, e.g., zig-zag or skip stitching, that enables the seams to stretch in the circumferential direction of the collar.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 15, 2001Publication date: June 21, 2001Inventors: Arthur A. Patent number: 4146934Abstract: A fabric, annular band, used for trimming or finishing the terminal edges of a garment, which garment usually has raw outer edges. In many cases, such as waistbands on trousers or skirts, the waistband must be curved, or contoured to adequately complement the anatomical configuration of any wearer. Thus, in any normal person, the hip bones are not on the same level as the waist itself. Accordingly, a simple straight band will not be satisfactory. The art has met the problem by forming the band in multiple sections, interconnected by seams, each section assuming an angularity relative to an adjacent section, to form a composite curved structure. My band, on the contrary, is one-piece, effecting many economies, including eliminating the use of relatively skilled labor.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1977Date of Patent: April 3, 1979Inventor: Leslie Cohen
