  • Publication number: 20090013442
Abstract: The invention is related to a knee protection system having a knee pad permanently attached to a garment such as pants. The pad is made of silicone rubber. The pad may be shaped and have a number of pad areas including a patella covering part of the pad, a pair of side parts and a top part of the pad. The side parts of the pad protect the user when they roll on their knees and the top part of the pad protects the user knee when they lean forward. The silicone rubber pad is waterproof, inert, and fire resistant. The pad is permanently attached to a knee region of a pair of pants. By manufacturing the pad in a pair of pants a user can comfortably walk around with the knee protection system.

  • Publication number: 20080289073
Abstract: A flexible knee pad of the kind to be worn over the knee of a workman who must kneel down for long periods of time while working on a work surface. According to a preferred embodiment, the flexible knee pad includes an upper knee support cushion against which the workman's knee is laid, a lower pivot support base to rest upon the work surface, and an intermediate pivoting reinforcement plate having a flat bed upon which the knee support cushion is seated. The intermediate pivoting reinforcement plate includes a pair of pivots that are coupled to respective pivot slots formed in the lower pivot support base. Accordingly, the pivoting reinforcement plate, the knee support cushion seated thereon, and the workman's knee are all suspended by and rotatable relative to the pivot support base above the work surface so as to advantageously reduce pressure applied to the workman's knee cap by the work surface should he rock his body and shift his weight back and forth over the work surface.

  • Patent number: 6913583
Abstract: The described Kneepad gives its wearer the advantage of being able to kneel without putting weight on the knee. This allows someone to kneel who may not otherwise be able to do so due to a knee replacement, or some other reason that disallows application of pressure to the knee. The support mechanism is composed of rugged, load-bearing materials, such as metal or plastics. Straps provide various means of adjustment for a correct fit when attached to the thigh of the wearer above the knee. The Kneepad can be quickly and easily removed and reapplied, and does not interfere with walking. An improvement over prior kneepads that placed the knee in contact with the kneeling surface, this invention does not involve such contact, since the thigh area above the knee takes all of the pressure of kneeling. With this invention many people who have not been able to kneel previously, may be able to do so. One alternate embodiment of the invention allows a wearer to lean on a sensitive elbow.

All the user has to do is heat the area on the workpants where the SK PAD system is going to be placed with a common household iron. The user must next place the SK PAD's loop fastening section that contains the heat sealing patch on that area and press it into place by applying pressure on all four (4) corners of the patch for approximately thirty (30) seconds. After the patch is allowed to cool, the patch must be checked to ensure that a tight fit has been made to the workpants. For the optimal result, the pants and patch must be left for four (4) hours for the patch to cool.

Abstract: A joint device for a leg guard, particularly for a leg guard used by ice-hockey players, comprises a first part that covers the wearer's lower leg, and a second part (2) that covers a part of the wearer's thigh above the knee and that is pivotally connected to the first part (1) via a joint element (4). A cup-shaped third part (3) bridges the gap between the first and the second parts (1, 2) and is pivotally mounted (5) on the second part (2). The joint element (4) includes pins which engage in a slot or groove (11) on the sides of the third part (3), so that the third part (3) will be dogged by the second part (2) when the angle between the first and the second parts is smaller than a limit angle. The first part (1) includes pins (8) which engage in a second slot (10) in the third part (3). The second slots include a first circular section whose center lies in the first joint element (4) when the guard is at a more pronounced angle than the limit angle.

  • Patent number: 6709729
Abstract: The invention is concerned with a three-dimensional protective pad which is constructed from a laminate structure having a first top layer of a neoprene/nylon skin combination which is stretchable in all directions. There is a second layer of a non-stretchable neoprene adhered under the first layer. Then there is a third layer of a polyurethane foam of a viscoelastic nature adhered under the second layer. Finally, there is a fourth layer of a neoprene/nylon skin combination which is stretchable in all directions adhered under the third layer. This laminated material is now structured into a three-dimensional shape. Therefore, prior to laminating all of the layers, the second and the third layers are adhered to each other first and then a sectional cut is made through layers, the cut surfaces are then closed by cross stitching through the second layer into the third layer and the cut edges are now glued together.
