Patent number: 12257819Abstract: In one embodiment, a thin, lightweight, flexible, strong multi-layer barrier fabric is provided that offers extended breakthrough time against hazardous materials. The multi-layer barrier fabric is arranged as a layer stack that includes an inner layer of facing fabric, an adsorbent layer of adsorptive fabric, a barrier layer of low-permeability fabric and an outer layer of facing fabric. The facing fabric provides tensile strength. The adsorptive fabric and the low-permeability fabric interact synergistically. The barrier layer improves capture effectiveness of the adsorbent layer by both slowing down the hazardous material to increase its residence time in the adsorbent layer and decreasing the escape probability of stray molecules of hazardous material that are not initially intercepted by the adsorptive fabric. The adsorbent layer improves barrier effectiveness of the barrier layer by reducing the concentration of hazardous material challenging the low-permeability fabric of the barrier layer.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2024Date of Patent: March 25, 2025Assignee: United Tactical Supply, LLCInventor: Robert Kaiser

Patent number: 12213542Abstract: A system pump-conditions a garment worn about a torso of an individual. A circulation array within the garment and a pump array circulate a fluid within an interior space between the garment and the torso. The pump array exerts a negative pressure on the circulation array to circulate the fluid generally from a head opening at a top portion of the garment, into the interior space, then through the circulation array, then out of the garment. The pump array exhausts the circulating fluid down and away from the torso. The moving circulating fluid draws heat and humidity from within the garment and directs same away from such individual to cool and comfort same. The moving circulating fluid also draws a cooling and comforting breeze about the head of the individual.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2023Date of Patent: February 4, 2025Inventor: Kwaku Temeng

Publication number: 20140059749Abstract: A protective garment comprising a plurality of layers integrated or bonded in a complementary manner protects wearers such as emergency responders against multiple hazards often present in a response area. The layers include a toxicity barrier adapted for visual contrast with toxic substances, such that the toxicity is barrier responsive to toxic substances by varying a response to an optical signal such as a UV light. An impact layer is responsive to projectiles by controlled deformation, such that the controlled deformation prevents passage of the projectile, as EMT response areas are often unsecured crime scenes where firearms may be present. Also, an absorbent layer is responsive to expelled fluids of the wearer such as perspiration, in which the absorbent layer is adapted for unidirectional diffusion of fluids so that moisture does not remain in contact with the skin of the wearer and cause discomfort, irritation, and thermal imbalance.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 28, 2013Publication date: March 6, 2014Inventors: Mustapha S.
