  • Patent number: 5109546
Abstract: An exercise suit which has a pair of stretchable pants (20) and a pull-over top (44) with a lower body reinforcing segment (38) attached, in the middle only, to the pants and a upper body reinforcing collar (54) attached, in the middle only, to the top. A leg band (42) encircle the legs (24) and the side bands (58) are affixed to the respective reinforcing collar. The leg bands (42) grip the wearer's feet creating a continuous loop from the waist to the feet. Hook and loop tape (40) allow the reinforcing segment (38) to be adjusted in tension around the wearer's waist and similarly adjusted knee pads (32) cover the knees in the pants legs (24). The resilience of the suit combined with the looped bands create a resistance to movement providing exercise to the wearer's muscles during physical activity.

  • Patent number: 5095549
Abstract: A firefighter pant support system for use with firefighter pants having an outer sheel of a fire and moisture resistant material and an inner liner of a heat resistant material wherein the inner liner is removable from the outer shell. The support system includes a vest member having a body preferably made of a heat-resistant open mesh, and a waistband having a plurality of button holes for receiving fasteners, such as buttons or fastener studes, such that the vest member supports the pant liner and outer shell when worn by a user. In an alternate embodiment, the vest member is stitched permanently to the liner to make a jump pant. The vest member distributes the weight of the pant liner and pant shell over a broader area than conventional suspenders, provides a layer of thermal protection for the upper body of the wearer and can carry reflective trim detectable when the wearer removes his firefighter coat.

  • Patent number: 4932078
Abstract: The invention comprises a unitized system of garments that prevents particulate matter from passing from the body of the person wearing the garments into the surrounding atmosphere or vice versa. Water vapor or other gases such as air are free to pass through the garment fabric which is a laminate of expanded, porous and gas permeable polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) bonded to a porous and gas permeable backing material. Particulate matter is blocked by the very fine pores of the garment. The person is totally enclosed in the garments preferably presenting virtually a 100% external surface of nonlinting PTFE, and passage of water vapor or water vapor and air through the laminate is sufficient to allow breathability. In order to make practical putting the garment on and taking it off, and to eliminate gaps in the garment, separate pieces are required and particulate-proof barriers are required where the separate sections are joined.

  • Patent number: 4369526
Abstract: A utility vest for worker's tools and supplies includes a canvas utility apron detachably secured by a heavy-duty zipper around the bottom of a sleeveless nylon vest. The utility apron has leather pouches detachably secured to it by zippers at desired locations. The leather pouches are of various shapes and sizes to hold various tools and supplies depending on the occupation of the user. The zippers for securing the various pouches to the apron are of identical construction so that any given pouch may be secured at any desired location around the apron. A buckle on the apron beneath the heavy-duty zipper eliminates excessive strain on the main vest zipper caused by the weight of the tools and supplies. The utility vest is designed to allow a worker to wear a short coat over the top of the vest in colder weather while still permitting easy access to the tools and supplies on the utility apron.

  • Patent number: 4131952
Abstract: A safety glove for a workman is shown having a fingerless body portion for covering the palm and top of the hand, and attached finger and thumb as well as palm and top hand covering portions that can be easily separated from the main body portion by a pulling motion exerted lengthwise or otherwise along any one of the separable portions, which pulling motion would be produced, for example, when the top end of one or more of these finger portions or top hand sections is caught in a machine or snagged by a drill bit and the workman, with a reflex action, pulls his hand in an opposite direction. The instantaneous separation of the finger, thumb, palm or top hand covering portions from the main glove body portion prevents the entire gloved hand from being pulled into the machine and thus permits the workman to remove his hand from the danger zone.
