    Abstract: A mount for supporting a microphone on a helmet having an outer shell and for use with a transmission cable. The microphone is mounted on a flexible boom carrying leads connected to the microphone. The transmission cable carries electrical conductors. The mount includes an attachment assembly having a surface with a contour which conforms to the outer shell of the helmet. The attachment assembly is provided with a sleeve-like member adapted to receive the flexible boom and a retainer for receiving the transmission cable. Connectors are carried within the attachment assembly for electrically connecting the electrical conductors from the transmission cable to the leads to the microphone. A layer of an adhesive material is carried by the surface of the attachment assembly and is adapted to fasten the attachment assembly to the outer shell of the helmet. The layer of adhesive material permits the fastening of the attachment assembly to the helmet without impairing the structural integrity of the helmet.

    Abstract: A welder's helmet having a plurality of photovoltaic cell panels, responsive to light produced during welding operations, for driving a pair of fans secured to opposing side walls of a head protecting shell. The photovoltaic cell panels are angularly mounted to the shell beneath a viewing window provided therein so as to permit the head of the wearer to be turned away from the welding area without affecting fan output. During operation, each of the paired fans impels air through an opening in the shell into the interior space defined by the shell. An optional battery pack, electrically connected to the fan motors provides an electrical power back-up for energizing the fans in the event that insufficient light is available to the photovoltaic panels.

    Abstract: A headband and flashlight holding construction includes a plurality of equal length straps. Two of the straps are joined together to form a headband, and two of the straps are orthogonally joined to the headband forming semi-loops so that, when the headband is situated on a user's head, the semi-loops span across the cranium of the user. The straps have loop-type material surfaces. At least the two straps that span across the cranium of the user, when in used have the loop-type material surfaces radially outermost. Holding devices are secured to small flashlights. These holding devices have hook-type material situated radially outwardly. Thus, the flashlight may be joined to the cranium spanning straps by simply pressing the holding devices against the straps allowing the hook-type material to intermesh with the loop-type material. Hook-type material fasteners are used to join the remaining two straps to form a full loop for the headband.

    Abstract: Headwear that produces sound from a signal is provided by an audio device in addition to the normal features of the headwear. The audio headwear of the present invention may be configured as a visor, goggles or a headband. In a preferred embodiment, the present invention is an audio visor comprising a flexible body, a protective layer and two speaker elements. The speaker elements are attached between the flexible body and the protective layer attached to cover the bottom side of the flexible body. Thus, the speaker elements do not interfere with the operation of flexible body as a visor. The preferred embodiment also comprises conductor leads and an amplifier to adapt the output of the audio device for the speaker elements. In the second embodiment, the audio headwear further comprises a lens attached to the flexible body to form goggles or sunglasses.
