Patent number: 10278456Abstract: Articles of footwear, including athletic footwear, include one or more of: (a) an upper; (b) a sole structure including a midsole and an outsole, the outsole having a plurality of polygonal lugs arranged about a base surface of the outsole. The outsole may include one or more regions wherein the characteristics of a portion of the lugs within a region differ from the characteristics of a portion of the lugs in another region. The lugs may differ, for example based on size, construction and/or spacing between the lugs. Methods of manufacturing such articles of footwear also are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 2014Date of Patent: May 7, 2019Assignee: NIKE, Inc.Inventors: Eric P. Avar, Kevin W. Patent number: 6275160Abstract: A flow detector includes solid state delay circuitry coupled to a flow indicating device. In response to flow being indicated, the delay circuitry is enabled. After a preset delay interval, if flow is still being indicated, an output signal can be generated. The flow indicating device can be a two-state mechanical switch. A mode setting element can be used to configure the detector for different types of installations.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2000Date of Patent: August 14, 2001Assignee: Pittway CorporationInventor: Simon Ha

Patent number: 6084521Abstract: A flow detector includes solid state delay circuitry coupled to a flow indicating device. In response to flow being indicated, the delay circuitry is enabled. After a preset delay interval, if flow is still being indicated, electrical energy can be provided by a short circuit to an output device for the duration of indicated flow. The flow indicating device can be a two-state mechanical switch. A short circuit supplying switch can be implemented as a solid state or mechanical latching relay. The flow detector circuits can be used independently to provide local alarms. Alternately they can provide alarm indicating signals to a common alarm control panel.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1998Date of Patent: July 4, 2000Assignee: Pittway CorporationInventor: Simon Ha

Patent number: 4943690Abstract: A shock sensor has a mercury wetted insert for supporting a mercury mass normally spaced from a terminal or terminals. The mercury and the terminal or terminals are contained within a sealed housing. When the sensor is subjected to a shock, the mercury is redistributed and protrudes from the insert so as to make contact the terminal or terminals and complete a circuit. By providing a mercury-non-wettable surface ahead of the mercury wetted insert, a closure delay time or operation time is selectively set. Additionally, the porosity of various membranes within the housing can be pre-selected to vary the speed in which the mercury is redistributed and thus also adjust the closure delay time. Also, a constriction in the non-wettable surface ahead of the mercury wetted insert can be utilized to provide a time delay by introducing a dash-pot effect.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1989Date of Patent: July 24, 1990Assignee: Fifth Dimension, Inc.Inventor: Sheldon S. Patent number: 4567375Abstract: The specification discloses an electromechanical time delay combination for gradually applying power to the filament of an incandescent lamp. Following actuation to the "on" state, the conduction angle gradually changes from zero to 360.degree.. Following deactuation, the conduction angle lingers at 180.degree. for several seconds before returning to the non-conduction state. A set of mechanical contacts and a potentiometer may be added to effect proportional dimming.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1980Date of Patent: January 28, 1986Inventors: Bruce D. Jimerson, Henry H. Patent number: 4138600Abstract: A device is disclosed which, in response to forces acting upon it, such as gravity, inertia, magnetic fields and the like, opens or closes electric circuits or otherwise generates signals which may be used to control predetermined functions.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1977Date of Patent: February 6, 1979Inventor: Karlis V. Patent number: 4135067Abstract: An omnidirectional tilt switch includes an enclosure for a gravity response conductive ball. An annular shelf surrounds a central depression where at least one switch contact passing into the housing is exposed. The shelf is operable to support the ball in a position resting against a cup-shaped portion of the switch housing, with the ball centroid located within a imaginary right cylinder having the inner shelf periphery as a base. In response to tilting of the switch, the ball is movable away from the cup-shaped housing to the depression where it engages the aforementioned contact and closes a circuit between that and another contact.A switch holder mounts the switch on a substrate located, for example, in an electro-optical display-type watch. The holder includes a base with a positioning edge or surface and tabs for securing the base to the substrate. Remote from the positioning edge or surface, the switch is supported at an angle relative to the positioning edge or surface.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1976Date of Patent: January 16, 1979Assignee: Fifth Dimension, Inc.Inventor: Sheldon S. Bitko

Patent number: 4076972Abstract: An electrical switch of the liquid contact type having a housing divided into three compartments: (1) a power compartment having electrodes, (2) a control compartment containing a resistor and (3) an intermediate compartment communicating with the power compartment through a lower channel and communicating with the control compartment through an upper channel containing a wick. The wick prevents liquid flow but permits gaseous flow.A body of electrically conductive liquid is normally contained in the intermediate compartment so that when the resistor is heated, the gas in the control compartment is expanded and passes into the intermediate compartment thereby forcing the conductive liquid into the power compartment to establish a circuit between the two electrodes.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1976Date of Patent: February 28, 1978Inventors: Jean Efther, Jean Denisselle

Patent number: 3973092Abstract: Acceleration sensing apparatus comprises a casing having a pair of substantially perpendicular passages communicating with each other and accommodating spaced apart, normally open electrical contacts. One of the passages contains mercury which is operable to flow into the other passage in response to predetermined acceleration of the casing and bridge the conductors so as to establish a current path therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1974Date of Patent: August 3, 1976Assignee: Breed CorporationInventors: David S.
