Abstract: One embodiment in accordance with the present invention includes a “plug-in” button module for a personal digital assistant (PDA). Specifically, the “plug-in” button module includes a button frame module having a membrane layer (e.g., thermo-plastic urethane or thermo-plastic elastomer) molded over it. The plug-in module can be snapped into the PDA over its button array. In this manner, the plug-in button module provides a seal for the buttons of the PDA that restricts dirt, grim, and other foreign particles from getting underneath them. Furthermore, since the plug-in button module is modular, it can be manufactured separately from the rest of the PDA in a wide variety of ways. For example, the membrane layer of the plug-in button module can be fabricated with different shapes, colors, hardnesses, decorations, textures, and opacities. In this manner, a user is able to personalize their PDA by snapping in a particular plug-in button module.

Abstract: A switch device includes (a) a switch arranged on a bottom of a recess, and (b) a waterproof sheet adhered at its outer edge to a wall defining the recess, at a certain height to entirely cover the recess therewith. The waterproof sheet has a first area greater than a cross-sectional area of the recess when the waterproof sheet is in its original planar form. A difference between the first area of the waterproof sheet and the cross-sectional area of the recess allows the switch to be actuated through the waterproof sheet, and disallows moisture to enter the recess through the waterproof sheet. The waterproof sheet is composed of transparent or semi-transparent resin, for instance. The waterproof sheet may be adhered at its outer edge to a summit or a bottom of the wall.

Abstract: A keyboard input device includes an elastic spring member bonded to a overcoat provided on a film substrate by an adhesive so that a movable contact part provided in the elastic spring member is disposed over a pair of fixed contact parts provided on the film substrate. An air-passage hole is provided on the ceiling of the elastic spring member including the movable contact part, the air-passage hole being disposed in the vertical moving direction of the movable contact part. Grooves are provided in a key-top at a portion thereof to be in contact with the top of the elastic spring member, the air-passage grooves being formed in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the air-passage hole to communicate with the air-passage hole. The air in the hollow elastic spring member is discharged, when the key-top is pressed to deform the elastic spring member, to the outside of the elastic spring member through the air-passage hole and the air-passage grooves.

Abstract: A keyboard with liquid-draining function, at least including: keys, elastic body layer, circuit board layer, bottom board and sealing layer; wherein the bottom board is installed with at least a liquid-draining hole, with the dividing mechanism being installed between the circuit board layer and the bottom board to form a liquid-draining space. The liquid-draining space and the liquid-draining hole are connected for the purpose of draining liquid that is accidentally poured into the keyboard, so that liquid flowing down through the keys can be drained away swiftly via the liquid-draining space and drained out of the keyboard through the liquid-draining hole, thus preventing liquid from accumulating in the keyboard, and maintaining the normal operation of the keyboard.

Abstract: A draining structure for keyboard an upper cover having a top surface forming a number of recessed areas for accommodation of movable pushbuttons. A lower cover is releasable attached to a bottom side of the upper cover. Each recessed area has at least one draining hole, preferably in the form of an elongated slot defined in a sidewall of the recessed area. The lower cover forms a groove corresponding in position to the draining holes of the upper cover for receiving liquid from the recessed areas of the upper cover via the draining holes. A number of openings or elongated slots is defined in the bottom of the groove for expelling the liquid out of the casing. A partition wall is formed in the lower cover for separating the groove from an electric part receiving space in which electric parts are arranged for preventing electric short caused by the liquid contacting the electric parts.

Abstract: A membrane switch incorporated in a control panel of a domestic washing appliance is vented through a labyrinth venting arrangement composed of a long, small diameter, twisting passage, including concentric arcuate sections and an intermediate portion. The venting arrangement establishes an effective barrier to fluids and other moisture, while accommodating the free passage of gases. In the most preferred form, the labyrinth venting arrangement is formed by cutting a channel into a supporting plastic assembly and then adhesive bonding a control plate incorporating the membrane switch over the labyrinth feature to complete the passage. One end of the passage is open to atmosphere by way of a slot in the supporting plastic assembly, while the other end joins the venting path with the membrane switch.
