Publication number: 20090068857Abstract: A contact element for the intermittent contacting of conductor tracks on a circuit board, in particular, for flexible touchpads, for example for flexible input devices in the automobile industry, is made from a metal foam. The metal foam may be at least partly infiltrated by an elastomeric material which can also be the material of construction of the touchpad. The contact element has a very reliable construction which is particularly suitable for high voltage application. A method for production of the contact element, touchpads/input devices with such contact pads and the use of the contact pads is also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 4, 2006Publication date: March 12, 2009Applicant: Abatek International AGInventors: Christoph Keist, Klaus Hoffmann

Patent number: 7468199Abstract: An adhesive membrane comprises (a) a conductor; (b) a composite material comprising conductive particles at least partially embedded in an electrically insulating layer disposed on the conductor; and (c) a pressure sensitive adhesive layer disposed on the composite material, the conductive particles being capable of electrically connecting the conductor to a second conductor under application of sufficient pressure therebetween, the conductive particles having no relative orientation and being disposed so that substantially all electrical connections made between the conductor and a second conductor will be in the z direction, and the combined thickness of the electrically insulating layer and the pressure sensitive adhesive layer being greater than the size of the largest conductive particle when the largest conductive particle is measured in the z direction.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2004Date of Patent: December 23, 2008Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Ranjith Divigalpitiya, Pei-Jung Chen, David A. Publication number: 20080283380Abstract: A first resistor layer is formed on the lower surface of a base in film form, and at the same time, a second resistor layer in which particles of different particle diameters are dispersed is formed and layered on the lower surface of the first resistor layer, and thus, a pressure sensitive conductive sheet is formed. In this configuration, the second resistor layer in uneven form makes contact with the fixed contacts in accordance with a pressing force so that electrical connection is made via the second resistor layer and the first resistor layer, and therefore, a thin panel switch with little fluctuation in the resistance value resulting from repeated operation where a stable resistance value can be gained can be realized.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 15, 2008Publication date: November 20, 2008Applicant: MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO., LTD.Inventors: Koji Tanabe, Hirotoshi Watanabe

Publication number: 20080190751Abstract: A sensor element for a touch switch device has a sensor element body of elastic, electrically conductive material. The sensor element body has two parallel end wall areas as the top and bottom surfaces, which are integrally connected in one piece by inwardly cambered side wall areas. Such a sensor element body can be very easily compressed. The wall thickness of the wall areas is substantially the same throughout. Such sensor elements can be constructed by forming a linear strip of such material having a cross section as described, where the strip is cut into individual pieces, thereby forming each individual sensor element.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 12, 2008Publication date: August 14, 2008Applicant: E.G.O. Patent number: 7378608Abstract: The present invention provides a stretchable fabric that may serve as a switch device or coupling to an electronic device and a power source by merely stretching or pusing the fabric. The stretchable fabrics may be usable in a wearable garment, furniture, or other suitable locations where it can be incorporated to close a circuit. Through a releasable stretching or pushing action by the user, electrically conductive strips integrated in the fabrics come in contact to activate related ancillary equipment such as power supplies or electronic devices.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2004Date of Patent: May 27, 2008Assignee: Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.Inventors: George Marmaropoulos, Giang Truong Vu, Katherine Pulford

Patent number: 7304860Abstract: A printed circuit board with thin film switches for a keyboard including an upper board having multiple circuit lines, an insulating separation defining multiple through holes, a lower board having multiple circuit lines and multiple thin film switches mounted on the upper and lower boards. The thin film switch has two thin film conductive elements respectively formed on the upper and lower boards and correspond to one of the through holes in the insulating separation. Each thin film conductive element has a center conductor, at least two outer conductors formed adjacent to the center conductor, and at least two conductive lines connected to the center and outer conductors. With such an arrangement, the areas of the center and outer conductors will be reduced, surfaces of the conductors are even in the curing procedure of fabricating upper or lower board to keep a stable touching sensitivity.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2006Date of Patent: December 4, 2007Inventor: Huo-Lu Tsai
