High Voltage Patents (Class 200/82B)
  • Patent number: 4095068
Abstract: An improved, multi-function, stationary-contact-and-voltage-shield structure is provided for a high-voltage gas-puffer-type circuit-interrupter, in which the surrounding metallic shield provides a smooth, low-gradient voltage shape, collecting and cooling the dispersed hot arced gases, generated during the interrupting operation at the arc, by the provision of selectively-located venting cooling port holes provided in the metallic shield structure and also in the stationary contact structure. The arrangement of the enveloped stationary contact and surrounding main stationary contact fingers, together with the outer, encompassing vented metallic shield arrangement is such as to provide an improved highly-efficient single-pressure puffer-type high-voltage circuit-interrupter.

  • Patent number: 4041264
Abstract: For rapid on-off operation of a contact device for a pre-insertion resistor in a high voltage compressed gas circuit breaker, the operating device includes a piston movable in a cylinder and connected to a movable contact. The piston forms two spaces in the cylinder. A quick operating valve connects the first cylinder space alternately to a source of high pressure or to a low pressure space. The space on the other side of the cylinder can be connected through openings to a delay space which surrounds the cylinder in the form of a ring. A spring-mounted slide is provided in the cylinder for normally closing these openings but allowing them to open when the piston moves. The delay space is connected to the source of pressure fluid through a line containing a check valve which prevents outflow from the delay space.

  • Patent number: 4029922
Abstract: An operating device for a high pressure circuit breaker enclosed in an elongated casing filled with compressed gas with a high-pressure chamber and a low-pressure chamber includes a driving arrangement operated by compressed gas. A compressed gas valve is provided for alternatively connecting the driving means to the high-pressure chamber and the low-pressure chamber. The device has openings into the high-pressure space and the low-pressure space respectively communicating with the driving arrangement. There is a valve seat around the first opening and a movable valve member engageable with the valve seat to close this opening. A space is provided on the opposite side of the valve member from the opening which is permanently connected with the high-pressure chamber. An impulse member outside the high-pressurechamber through an operating rod extending perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the casing engages the valve member for moving the valve member away from the valve seat.

  • Patent number: 4016384
Abstract: An improved circuit-breaker position-indicator is provided for a gas-type circuit-interrupter in which the circuit-breaker structure is enclosed within an outer pressurized casing at a different pressure than the gas pressure interiorly of the circuit-breaker itself. Improved means are provided for effecting manual movement of the circuit-breaker contacts by a hand-jack assembly, when desired. Visible safe indication of the correct circuit-breaker open and closed-circuit positions is obtained at all times for safe and dependable operation of the circuit-breaker.

  • Patent number: 3987262
Abstract: A puffer-type gas-blast circuit-interrupter is provided having an operating cylinder movable over a fixed composite piston structure, the fixed composite piston structure providing a variable cross-sectional area by means of a secondary piston area, preferably annular in configuration, which is releasably latched in a fixed forward position, and, subsequently, during the opening operation of the breaker, collapsed to a retracted position. The composite piston arrangement may be such that upon collapse of the secondary "fixed" piston, the diameter of the surrounding movable operating cylinder may be such as to closely surround the central area of the primary fixed piston structure to retain high-pressure gas within the piston-compression chamber without loss.

  • Patent number: 3984648
Abstract: A circuit breaker actuating device comprising valve means interposed between a high pressure section of an operation fluid and a low pressure section thereof to preclude communication therebetween and adapted to cause a variation in pressure to occur either in a high pressure source or low pressure source when actuated to establish communication between the high pressure section and the low pressure section, so as to thereby actuate piston means and cause a circuit breaker to perform a current interrupting operation.

  • Patent number: 3969985
Abstract: A fluid actuating device for an electric switching apparatus such as a high-voltage power circuit breaker or the like includes an actuator for actuating the switching apparatus. The actuator in turn is made up of a cylinder and an actuator differential piston movable in the cylinder between positions corresponding to the open and closed positions of the switching apparatus. A fluid supply provides fluid under high-pressure to the end-faces of the actuator differential piston. A main-valve arrangement includes a main-valve differential piston movable for alternately interrupting and connecting fluid from the fluid supply to one of the end-faces of the actuator differential piston whereby the actuator differential piston is caused to move between its end positions. The main-valve differential piston also has end-faces fluidly connected to the fluid supply.

  • Patent number: 3943777
Abstract: A circuit breaker operating apparatus comprising an operating piston connected to an operating member for operating a breaking section, holding means for mechanically maintaining the operation-complete state of the operating piston at the time of completion of its operation, spring means for giving a restitutive force to the operating member, and means for releasing an operating medium acting on the operating piston at the time of completion of its operation. The holding means includes a first lever connected to the operating piston and a second lever having an end connected to the first lever and the other end adapted to be locked by lock means. The lock means is so simple as to be arranged at an optimum position.
