Abstract: A discoloration of an aminosilane having a content of a free base is treated by adding an acid chloride to the aminosilane to obtain a mixture having a molar excess of acid chloride; neutralizing the molar excess of the acid chloride in one or more steps with a molar deficit of a base to obtain a mixture containing a salt; separating off the salt from; and irradiating the remaining aminosilane with UV-containing light.
Abstract: A process for lightening (or decreasing) the color of diphenylmethane diisocyanate by irradiation with light having a wavelength of from 250 nm to 2,500 nm is described. This invention also relates to the use of this brightened diphenylmethane diisocyanate as the isocyanate component in a process for the production of polyurethane plastics by the isocyanate polyaddition process.

Abstract: A method for reducing discoloration in a discolored plastic material which has been subjected to sterilization by gamma radiation which includes exposing the plastic material to light having a wavelength within the range of 200 to 600 nm for a time sufficient to restore the original clarity. A sterilized pack for a medical device including plastic material in which the clarity has been restored by the method is also included.
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for altering the properties of light sensitive material, for example, biological material, which has a plurality of randomly spaced light absorbing structures thereon. A beam of light, for example, from a laser, is directed, as by scanning, onto a site of the material to be influenced. In order to achieve changes in the properties of the light sensitive material substantially only at each light absorbing structure, the light beam is modulated with a pattern of successive pulses, the pattern being a plurality of pulses of selected duration, energy level, and repetition frequency. The light induced changes may be thermal, mechanical, or chemical in nature.
Abstract: The color of a polymer, particularly polytetrahydrofuran, is improved by subjecting the polymer to microwave energy of such magnitude and frequency so as to cause a decrease in the APHA color number.
Abstract: Salt compositions which have been discolored during sterilization by means of radioactive radiation such as gamma and/or beta irradiation of the type which causes such discoloration are substantially restored to the original color by treatments disclosed herein. Methods for restoring the original color of such salts, including heating to specified temperatures for specified periods of treatment are also disclosed.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for artificially bleaching or lightening hair by exposing the hair to intense radiation of artificial light. The light is typically from a laser or flashlamp source and provides adequate intensity and power during the lifetime of the excited melanin molecule in the hair to substantially destroy at least some of the melanin molecules in the hair.
