Patent number: 6216868Abstract: The handle has a blade mounting portion with a raised boss forming a slot. The blade has a boss receiving recess with a portion defined by an edge. The cartridge has a transparent top so that the presence of a blade within the cartridge can be observed and an opening at one end into which the blade mounting portion of the handle can be inserted. The bottom of the cartridge includes a spring platform with a recess into which the blade is received. The platform is integral with the cartridge bottom and is mounted in cantilever-like fashion, by a living hinge, to permit it to flex. When the top and bottom of the cartridge are assembled, ribs on the top cause the platform to move to a spring loaded position, where the forward end of the handle boss can enter the blade recess. As the blade mounting portion of the handle is inserted further into the cartridge, the flexibility of the platform permits the boss to be fully seated within the recess, mounting the blade on the handle.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1999Date of Patent: April 17, 2001Assignee: Stonybrook Surgical Innovations Inc.Inventors: Jahangir S. Patent number: 5636442Abstract: A shaving system comprises novel components of a razor handle (1), a razor blade cartridge (2), and a magazine (5) holding a supply of cartridges. The handle and magazine are adapted to cooperate so that a used cartridge on the handle is replaced by (i) inserting the used cartridge into an empty magazine compartment, which unlatches the handle from the cartridge; (ii) moving the handle along the magazine towards a next adjacent compartment accommodating a fresh cartridge, firstly to disconnect the handle from the used cartridge which is left in its compartment and secondly to latch the handle onto the fresh cartridge held in the next compartment; and (iii) withdrawing from the magazine the handle with the fresh cartridge attached. Thus, the cartridges are dispensed from the magazine in turn with each cartridge replacement operation being effected by a single stroke of the handle relative to the magazine, this stroke having distinct components of insertion, advancement and withdrawal.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1995Date of Patent: June 10, 1997Assignee: The Gillette CompanyInventor: Kevin J. Patent number: RE29571Abstract: The specific disclosure provides a dispensing system for razor blade cartridges comprising a dispenser, a plurality of cartridges in the dispenser, and a holder having a plurality of transverse supporting surfaces on top of a frame member for sliding engagement with surfaces extending transversely of each cartridge. The dispenser has a used cartridge storage end comprising a transverse opening between a used cartridge entrance port in one side wall and a holder exit port in the other side wall. A used cartridge is positioned in the used cartridge storage end through the used cartridge entrance port by means of the holder. The frame member of the holder is moved through the transverse opening to abut a side of the used cartridge against wall surfaces forming the holder exit port. Continued movement of the holder disengages the transverse supporting surfaces of the holder from the used cartridge, and such holder surfaces are removed from the storage end through the holder exit port.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 1975Date of Patent: March 14, 1978Assignee: Warner-Lambert CompanyInventors: Jan Dawidowicz, Frank A.
