Patent number: 4416392Abstract: A dispensing device for use in dispensing sheets of material coated along one edge with a narrow band of readily releasable pressure-sensitive adhesive. The dispenser comprises a container having a pair of sidewalls connected by a top wall which is formed with a transversely extending rectangular opening extending in the direction parallel to the side walls. The sheets are stacked within the dispenser such that upon removing the uppermost sheet in the stack the adhesive coating along one edge of the sheet adhered to the edge of the next sheet in the stack will cause the next sheet in the stack to be withdrawn at that free edge through the dispensing opening upon withdrawal of the uppermost sheet.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1981Date of Patent: November 22, 1983Assignee: Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Daniel D. Patent number: 4369881Abstract: A readily stackable coil package comprises a closed carton 1 which is formed from a folded cardboard blank and which has a pair of oppositely disposed major side walls 2 whose boundary edges 4 lie in parallel planes. Each major side wall 2 has an area 5 of weakness in axial alignment with an area of weakness in the other major side wall. A coil of wire is housed in the closed carton 1 and, also loosely housed in the closed carton, is separately formed means 7 for forming a rigid hollow hub. When it is desired to convert the closed carton 1 into a reel, the areas 5 of weakness are removed to form apertures, the separately formed hub forming means 7 is extracted from the package and is assembled to form a rigid hollow hub extending between and secured to parts of the major side walls bounding the apertures in the major side walls.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1981Date of Patent: January 25, 1983Inventor: Neville J. Patent number: 4204479Abstract: A removable cover and containment means for a single truck bed mounted coil of sheet steel or the like. The cover is rigid, generally semicylindrical in shape and is adapted to fit over a standard sized coil of steel. The cover is further adapted so that after it has been placed over the steel coil a removable core member can be run through one side of the cover and the center of the steel coil and then firmly secured to another side of the cover so that any unwinding slippage of the coil will be effectively contained. In a preferred embodiment of this invention, the core member is secured to one side of the cover by means of screw threads and a portion of that core member pushes a friction brake element against the steel coil so that any angular unwinding or slippage of the coil will tighten the core member into the screw retainer and thereby increase the braking force applied to the coil and automatically restrain incipient unwinding.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1978Date of Patent: May 27, 1980Inventor: Gilbert L. Patent number: 4176803Abstract: A shipping carton is made with a wrapper which is placed between the end frames of a reel. The wrapper has folded over flaps at the transverse edges which are biased against the end boards of the respective frames and abutted at the ends against the hook strips of the reel. The placement of the wrapper between the end frames and the abutment of the flaps against the hook strips serve to strengthen the carton. The winding machine includes inwardly directed clips on the outer ends of holders on the end frames for holding the hook strips in rigid condition during winding of a pile fabric on the reel.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1977Date of Patent: December 4, 1979Assignee: Timron, Inc.Inventor: Theodore P. Patent number: 4168778Abstract: A box containing a roll of material such as a rope of tubular plastic netting, the roll having a passage extending through it axially. Each end of the box has a triangular aperture through it. When the roll rests on a first side of the box the apertures line up with the passage through the roll. In this position an arbor is inserted through the passage and the apertures. To dispense the material the box is turned over so that a second side, the side opposite the first side, is on the bottom. The arbor now rests on arbor-supporting edge portions of each aperture. The distance between each arbor-supporting edge portion and the second side is greater than the radius of the roll, so the roll is suspended above the second side of the box by means of the arbor. The roll then rotates freely in the box, permitting material to be unwound.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1978Date of Patent: September 25, 1979Assignee: Bemis Company, Inc.Inventor: Larry E. Buxton

Patent number: 3982712Abstract: An assembly for packaging a coil of wire or other strand material. At least one dispensing strip embraces the outer surface of the coil generally diametrically and across its traversed portion and includes a pair of pyramid-shaped members which project into the central core of the coil from opposite directions. Wire from the core of the coil is drawn through a hollow feed tube which extends radially through the windings of the coil. For support and protection of the coil, a container is provided and includes a window positioned for withdrawal of the wire from the coil. By reason of its construction or, alternatively, by its composition of appropriate transparent material, the container enables an inspection of its contents.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1975Date of Patent: September 28, 1976Inventor: Eugene E. Patent number: 3945495Abstract: Rolls of household or consumer type films or wrapping materials are provided with a curled leading edge that is ideally suited as a grasping tab for starting initial withdrawal of the film such as from a standard consumer type dispensing carton. The invention is applied to films exhibiting relatively high residual shrinkage or stress relaxation and is practiced by applying a coating to, or alternately solvent treating, the leading edge, in a manner that unbalances the rate of shrinkage at the opposite surfaces of the edge, thereby inducing a curling effect. Further attributes of such a starting feature would include easy identification of the leading edge, and the lessening of sensitivity to tear propagation such as from a notch or a like tear propagating flaw as may be left in the leading edge by the film cutter bar.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1974Date of Patent: March 23, 1976Assignee: The Dow Chemical CompanyInventors: William D.
