Abstract: Improved packages and methods for constructing packages are provided that are designed such that the user can peel back a lidding member of the package to reveal an independently peelable portion covering one of the compartments. The independently peelable portion is a layer of the lidding member that maintains the respective compartment in an unopened (sealed) condition until the user independently peels that layer off to access the items in that compartment. The lidding member can be used to re-seal all of the compartments before and/or after the independently peelable portion is removed. The independently peelable portion may include a visual indication of a sealed condition of the compartment that serves as a tamper evidence feature. In multiple-compartment packages, peeling back the lidding member allows the user to access some of the compartments of the package, while at least one of the compartments remains sealed via the independently peelable portion.

Abstract: Carbon dioxide benefits plants in restricted indoor growing areas. Plants will deplete carbon dioxide levels in an indoor environment over time. The present invention provides a process design, system, and apparatus for a controlled, non-electrical, non-heat generating, non-mechanical, production source of CO2. The source of CO2 is fungi inoculated into a scientifically sterilized, enclosed growth medium prepared in a laboratory setting. The fungi is provided with an optimum food source from which the fungi may produce CO2 for at least six months. The CO2 produced is passively transferred from the fungi growing environment to an indoor plant growing environment under the optimization of the present invention. The transfer is non-electrical and preferably occurs through a gaseous interchange portal system which provides an interface between the fungi's enclosed plastic bag and the surrounding plant-growing environment.

After pressurization integrity testing of the bag, the peelable film is peeled away to enable steam - and/or ETO-sterilization of the bag and its contents to be carried out.

  • Patent number: 7141256
Abstract: A package, which allows for butchering and packaging of fresh red meat at a centralized facility is provided which includes an impermeable tray supporting the product, a first film sealed to the tray for enclosing the product, a channel defined within the first film for exchanging gases into and out of the package, and a second impermeable film enclosing the first film, such that removal of the impermeable film provides for the exchange of gases into and out of the package. The channel for exchanging of gases may be perforations defined within the first film, a second highly permeable film sealed to the first film, or an enlarged opening formed within the first film, which is enclosed with a patch following adequate gas exchange at retail. Such gas exchange is required to release any low oxygen atmosphere and allow for the introduction of oxygen to the packaged meat product. The channel for exchanging gases having a gas transmission rate of at least about 50,000 cc/m2/24 hrs./atm. at 73° F.

  • Patent number: 7040485
Abstract: A package for a drug-device combination product includes an outer package including a first gas impermeable sheet and a second gas impermeable sheet hermetically sealed there to on three sides. A gas permeable header is attached to an unsealed side of the first sheet and sealed to the second sheet on two sides. The first and second gas impermeable sheets and the header form an interior and an opening communicating with the interior. A gas permeable inner package is disposed within the outer package. A product is sealed within the inner package. The inner package is placed within the outer package and a top end of the header is sealed to the second sheet. The outer package is then sealed by sealing the first gas impermeable sheet to the second gas impermeable sheet at a seal point below the point where the header attaches to the first sheet.

Abstract: The invention relates to a lid (1) that can be heat-sealed to the opening of a package (2) and peeled off as the package is opened. In addition, the invention comprises methods for manufacturing such a lid and a package sealed with the lid, and also a sealed package equipped with a lid. The lid (1) consists of a fibrous material layer (6), whichmay be paper or cardboard, a polymer oxygen-barrier layer (7), suitable materials of which are polyethylene terephthalate (PET), ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) or polyamide (PA), and a polymer heat-seal layer (8). In accordance with the invention, the heat-seal layer (8) combines ethylene methyl acrylate copolymer (EMA), ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) and polyamide wax, adherence of the heat-seal layer directly to the oxygen-barrier layer (7) having been allowed without any intermediate binder. During the manufacture of the lid, the oxygen-barrier and heat-seal layers (7, 8) can be applied onto paper or cardboard by coextrusion.

By virtue of this structure, the soaring of powder at the time of powder filling can be prevented to thereby facilitate the filling operation. Furthermore, not only is the sticking of powder to seal portion reduced at the time of sealing the mouth of the bag to thereby ensure obtaining satisfactory seal strength but also the environmental pollution by the soaring of powder can be avoided.
