Abstract: An improved top opening, rectangular flexible bag for containing a stack of highly compressed flexible articles. The bag has front and back panels, two side panels and top and bottom panels, all of which are connected together to form an internal compartment for containing the stack under high compression. The stack is arranged within the bag in such a way that the side panels are under tension. The line of weakness defines the entire top portion of the bag which can be easily removed, thus exposing the entire contents of the bag for easy removal. The improvement to the bag is that the line of weakness is applied to the front and back panel of the bag simultaneously, thus providing perfect alignment of the lines of weakness where they intersect the side seals of the bag. The bag is further improved with a notch where the line of weakness intersects the side seal, thus significantly reducing the force to initiate the tear through the bead of plastic created by the side seal.

  • Patent number: 5358140
Abstract: An adhesive bandage dispensing system includes an elongated strand of individually sterile-wrapped adhesive bandages and a reusable dispenser for storing and dispensing the bandages. Each bandage is contained in a separate sterile compartment of an otherwise continuous wrapping material. Perforations formed in the wrapping material around each compartment allow the compartments to be individually opened. The strand is loaded into the dispenser, which is secured to a stable surface, so that the leading edge of the strand is frictionally held in biased guide flanges and protrudes from a dispensing opening defined by the flanges. The leading edge of the strand is pulled from the dispensing opening until an entire bandage is exposed, then the strand is pulled sharply to completely break the perforation, and the bandage can then be removed from the excess wrapping and prepared to be applied to a wound using both hands, if necessary.

  • Patent number: 5358171
Abstract: Packs for paper handkerchiefs usually comprise a wrapper of thin plastic foil and can be reclosed after the initial opening of the pack with the aid of an adhesive tape which is applied to the pack. The invention intends to create a pack with a wrapper which is as harmless to the environment as possible and is easy to handle and, optionally repeatedly reclosable. According to the invention, a closure tab (30) which covers a withdrawal opening (40) in the region of a front panel (13) of the pack (11) is connected to a portion of edges of the withdrawal opening (residual connection 32 ) in a tearable manner to permit an opening of the pack. Furthermore, the invention relates to a blank for forming the pack and a corresponding process.

  • Patent number: 5332118
Abstract: The present invention pertains to improved pop-up dispensing systems in which edge portions of adjacent towels are non-parallel when the individual towel sheets are interleaved and folded. This new configuration provides improved pop-up dispensing reliability by providing a predictable, repeatable separation process. The overlapped area formed by the overlapping end edges is tapered such that there is a point across the sheet width with the greatest overlap in the direction of the pulling force and a point across the sheet width with the least overlap in the direction of the pulling force. This configuration allows the area of maximum overlap to pull the next sheet through the dispensing aperture at the same time that the sheet separation process is starting to take place at the area of least overlap. The separation process begins at the point of least overlap and proceeds across the overlapping area along a "separation front" toward the point of greatest overlap.
