Patent number: 4286708Abstract: The sympathetic or chain reaction detonation of stacked munitions is preved by confining any random explosion essentially to a single explosive unit or container. Frangible inhibitor plates are located between adjacent munitions, such as artillery shells, so as to isolate the adjacent explosive units from a residual shock wave or case fragment that would otherwise trigger sympathetic detonation. The inhibitor plates may be constructed as part of a container in which an artillery shell may be stored, or the plates may be separately inserted between any adjacent warhead in any conventional storage pallet or transporting configuration. The plates are designed to absorb only that amount of explosive energy required to prevent sympathetic detonation, without requiring that the explosive forces be redirected away from adjacent shells, thus reducing the problem of redirected blast.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1979Date of Patent: September 1, 1981Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventor: Francis B. First and second elongated tubular turnings are provided, the first turning having a socket formed at a first end thereof, and the second turning being releasably connectable to a lamp base at a first end thereof. A tray is disposed between the turnings, and they are connected together, sandwiching the tray therebetween, with structure that does not require rotational movement of one turning with respect to the other. Preferably a first plate having three screw threaded rods extending therefrom is attached to the first turning and passes through bores in the tray and in a second plate attached to the second turning, nuts being disposed on the end of the threaded rods to hold the turnings in place.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1979Date of Patent: March 10, 1981Assignee: Dunning Industries, Inc.Inventors: Gene T. Patent number: 4244468Abstract: A package is provided for phonograph records in which four small-diameter records are packaged in a sleeve having the outside dimensions corresponding to those of a sleeve for a large diameter record. The package is comprised of a sleeve having a cruciform separator mounted between the front and rear panels of the sleeve. The separator defines four pockets, one for each of four small-size records packaged in the sleeve. The sleeve typically is square in outline and the pockets are located in slightly overlapping relation at each corner quadrant of the sleeve, access being had through opposite open side edges of the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1979Date of Patent: January 13, 1981Inventors: Gerard E. Patent number: 4195732Abstract: A member for protectively supporting and spacing a plurality of rolls of web material such as cellophane in a multi-layer stack is formed as an elongated bar. The bar has a plurality of spaced indentations along at least one elongated surface for receiving the rolls of the stack. The bar is formed with sufficient flexibility to permit a limited, relative movement among the rolls of the stack. This provides a high degree of protection to the rolls. At the same time, the bar has sufficient strength to prevent crushing of the stack. The bar may be formed of expanded polystyrene foam and, preferably, is formed to embrace the ends of the rolls for protective purposes.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1978Date of Patent: April 1, 1980Assignees: Great Northern Corporation, Presto Products, Inc.Inventor: Norman H. Patent number: 4180164Abstract: A packaging arrangement for housing a plurality of U-shaped fluorescent lamps in a corrugated container is provided having a plurality of first and second corrugated inserts each having a plurality of aligned, spaced slots extending inward a predetermined distance from a first edge of each thereof. The inserts are mounted on one another by sliding one insert in the slots of the other, the slots being aligned and the inserts being positioned orthogonally with respect to each other and as assembled extending between the four sides of the container. The firt and second inserts when so mounted form a plurality of rectangular compartments therein which conform generally with and are adapted to house U-shaped fluorescent bulbs therein.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1978Date of Patent: December 25, 1979Assignee: Voltarc Tubes, Inc.Inventors: Andrew Durden, Malcolm E. Patent number: 4156022Abstract: A packaging arrangement for a generally friable product sealed in a plastic pouch, the latter of which is positioned in a sealed cylindrical container so as to be restrained from axial movement therein. A separator may be located in the container to bias the pouch radially outwardly into engagement with the inner cylindrical surface of the container. Moreover, a corrugated liner may be interposed between the plastic pouch and the inner wall of the container to thereby provide added protection to the friable product from shock loads imparted to the container.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1977Date of Patent: May 22, 1979Assignee: General Foods CorporationInventor: Frank J.
