Abstract: A method and system for handling viscous liquid crude hydrocarbons is disclosed. The method involves (a) solvent deasphalting at least a portion of an asphaltene-containing liquid crude hydrocarbon feedstock to form an asphaltene fraction and a deasphalted oil (DAO) fraction essentially free of asphaltenes; (b) adjusting the density of the asphaltene fraction to substantially the same density of a carrier for the asphaltene fraction; (c) forming coated asphaltene particles from the asphaltene fraction of step (b); (d) slurrying the coated asphaltene particles with the carrier; and (e) transporting the slurry to a treatment facility or a transportation carrier.

Abstract: A method for producing a process oil is provided in which an aromatic extract oil is added to a paraffinic rich feed to provide a blended feed. The blended feed is then extracted with an aromatic extraction solvent to yield a raffinate which subsequently is hydrotreated to provide a process oil.

Abstract: Ceramic films and coatings, single or multi-layered, including superlattice, infiltrated with boride, carbide, nitride, oxynitride, and silicide were formed by methods which comprises of an electrochemical coating of a ceramic precursor by a constant or an amplitude-modulated electric current with a DC component in a medium containing at least one of the ionic species for the composition of the ceramic precursor, following single or multiple infiltration in a medium containing at least one of the compounds selected from a B-containing compounds, a C-containing compounds, a N-containing compounds, a Si-containing compounds, and a mixture thereof, by heating means selected from radio-frequency, microwave, thermal, flame, plasma, laser, and a mixture thereof.
Abstract: A process for the removal of basic heterocyclic nitrogen compounds from petroleum oils which comprises:(a) contacting said petroleum oils containing basic heterocyclic nitrogen compounds with an aqueous solution of a first solvent comprising concentrated acid at extraction conditions in a first extract zone,(b) separating the product of step (a) into a raffinate product stream comprising hydrocarbons having a lean content of basic heterocyclic nitrogen compounds and residual acid levels, and a first extract phase comprising hydrocarbons, water and acid having a substantial content of basic heterocyclic nitrogen compounds,(c) flashing said first extract phase to remove bulk first solvent.
Abstract: A process for deasphalting a heavy hydrocarbon feedstock, comprising two stages of precipitation from the feedstock of an asphaltene fraction alone or, alternatively, of a resin fraction along with the asphaltene fraction, by means of a heavy solvent and a light solvent, respectively, is disclosed. In accordance with the process, the heavy solvent and the light solvent both contain, in different proportions, at least one hydrocarbon having 3 carbon atoms and at least one hydrocarbon having at least 5 carbon atoms, the proportion of the hydrocarbon having 3 carbon atoms being higher in the light solvent than in the heavy solvent.

Abstract: Process for recovering highly pure aromatic substances from mixtures of hydrocarbons which contain in addition to the aromatic substances, large amounts of non-aromatic substances by liquid-liquid extraction in combination with an after arranged extractive distillation whereby the liquid-liquid extraction of the starting hydrocarbon mixture is carried out under such conditions that the resulting extract contains substantially the total amount of the aromatic substances and a portion of the non-aromatic substances, introducing this extract into an after arranged extractive distillation for further separating said extract whereby the sump product (extract phase) formed is drawn off and introduced into an after arranged distillation column where it is separated into an aromatic and a solvent fraction, while the head product of the extractive distillation (raffinate phase) is reintroduced into the bottom of the extractor for liquid-liquid extraction thereof, wherein there is used in both of the extracting stages,
