  • Patent number: 6015049
Abstract: An apparatus for the grading of fish into various size categories, utilizing a series of panels with progressively smaller spaces between grading bars on the panels. The panels are attached to a panel box that may be raised or lowered within a holding vat. Water constantly flows through the holding vat, up through the panel box, and out over a spillway at the top front of the holding vat. By raising the panel box, the largest fish are forced out of the holding vat and down the spillway by the grading bars on the panels inside the panel box. Smaller fish swim through the grading bars on the panels with wider spaces between grading bars, and are not forced out of the holding vat until a lower panel with narrower spaces between grading bars is raised to the edge of the spillway. The constant flow of water up and toward the spillway causes the fish to instinctively swim downward and align themselves parallel to the grading bars and keeps the fish oxygenated during the grading process.

  • Patent number: 6000554
Abstract: A screening conveyor (10) for conveying particulate matter, such as comminuted wood fiber, in a forward direction while also screening to separate particles over a predetermined size from small particles under a predetermined size. The screening conveyor includes a frame (17, 50) and first and second conveyor bed sections (16, 30) supported by the frame. Each conveyor bed section defines a longitudinal axis and an upper surface (22) formed from a tiled series of trough shaped trays (20). Each tray defines a step including an ascending surface portion (96). The first and second conveyor bed sections are reciprocated in opposing balanced fashion along the longitudinal axis by a motor (48), cam assembly (54) and connecting rods (64, 66). The received particulate matter is carried on the stepped upper surfaces of the reciprocating conveyor bed and thrown forwardly from tray to tray. The upper surfaces further each define a plurality of apertures of predetermined size.

  • Patent number: 5921401
Abstract: A mobile screening apparatus can be vibrated by two similarly-constructed vibration units that are mounted on or near the front and rear walls of the box that contains the vibrating screen assembly. Each vibration unit comprises an hydraulic motor having a stub drive shaft and a circular eccentric cam or weight carried on the shaft. The screen assembly has connections to the circular cams or weights, whereby motor rotation vibrates the screen assembly. The use of stub shafts eliminates whipping shaft motions associated with conventional elongated shafts spanning the screen assembly.

Abstract: Screens have been developed which, in one aspect, have interconnection apparatus including male projections on one first screen end which are received in female openings on another adjacent screen end. In one aspect the female openings are defined by raised portions of a three-dimensional screen and the male projections either are formed of the other screen's end or are part of plugs inserted into raised portions of the first screen end. A shale shaker has been developed with such screens. In one aspect such a shale shaker has screens disposed in a tiered configuration, one screen in sealing contact with the next. Screen connector apparatus has also been developed for such screens.

Abstract: Classifying apparatus and methods are disclosed for the classification of extremely small solid particles of 18 mesh or less in which low frequency, high amplitude vibrations are imparted to a screen simultaneously with high frequency, low amplitude vibrations. The screen may be inclined at an angle of about 20.degree. from the horizontal and the screen mesh may be about 18 mesh or smaller and have openings which are approximately square in shape.

  • Patent number: 5100539
Abstract: An apparatus and method for sizing and separating particles of a material. The apparatus includes a stand, a frame having a pair of ends and an intermediate portion, and suspension assemblies attached to the stand and the frame for movably suspending the frame on the stand. A pair of inclined screens are removably mounted in a pair of screen boxes removably mounted on the frame, with each of the screens sloping downwardly from the intermediate portion of the frame toward a respective one of the ends of the frame. At least one motor is mounted on the frame for vibrating the frame and attached screens, and a feed box is mounted on the stand adjacent to and above upper ends of the screens for supplying a material to be sized. The method of the invention includes the steps of actuating the motor and depositing a material onto the upper ends of the screens via the feed box, so that the vibrating screens can simultaneously size and separate particles of the material.

  • Patent number: 5023984
Abstract: A method and machine adapted to deburr items having burrs, particularly pressed sponge metal compacts of zirconium or hafnium. The burrs are gently scraped away by one or more endlessly moving, substantially horizontal preferably rotary screens preferably of stainless steel wire, which carry the items to be deburred. An item-confining wall and a series of baffles are associated with each screen for guiding the items back and forth across the upper surface of the screen and for passing the items through a passageway in the confining wall. The shavings of deburred material drop through the screen and are collected below. Means, such as item turning chutes, are provided between screens so that opposite sides of an item to be deburred, such as a washer-shaped item having flat opposite sides, will be completely deburred in a single pass through the machine.

  • Patent number: 4986422
Abstract: The method of screening solid materials resides in feeding a solid material onto a sifting surface and imparting oscillations to surface under the action of an effort directed at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the sifting surface, providing for moving particles of the solid material directly engaging the sifting surface from the loading zone to the discharge zone at an acute angle to the vertical component of the applied effort, and limiting their displacement in a direction normal to the sifting surface. The apparatus for performing the method comprises a box carrying a vibrator and a support frame with a sieve secured thereto at an angle to a vertical plane including the longitudinal axis of the box, the sieve being associated with a screen for limiting the displacement of the solid material particles in a direction normal to the surface of the sieve.

  • Patent number: 4797204
Abstract: An apparatus for automatic screen analysis of a granular material in which the material is screened from a polygonal drum which is divided crosswise into at least two chambers by a transverse partition. A first chamber has progressively coarser screens on each of its faces except one, which has a downward slanting ramp for transferring the sample into a second chamber. Particles are transferred or chuted into the second chamber after they have been screened on all the screens of the first chamber. The second chamber has screens progressively coarser than those in the first chamber, for making more cuts. This construction increases the number of graded screening surfaces available without requiring greater drum length or more sides.
