    Abstract: A sifter insert for use in a sifting device has an insert frame and a screening media affixed thereto. An insert frame air channel is located within the insert frame. The sifter insert is sized to be received in a sifter box frame of an associated sifter box. The sifter box frame has a box frame air channel in fluid communication with the insert box frame channel of the received sifter insert. The passage of air through the box frame air channel and the insert frame air channel may cool the sifter box and the insert frame, and may cool the screening media and the material being sifted thereon. Channel holes in the insert frame may direct air from the insert frame air channel to the screening surface of the screening media.

Preferably, the openings in the food chamber sieve are greater in size than the openings in the flour chamber sieve which is removable. The device further comprises a lid hingedly connected to the top of the food chamber and a handle for grasping the device with one hand. The lid is preferably spring hinged such that when opened, the lid is maintained open preventing the lid from closing when the device is tilted. The present invention also includes the above device with more than two sieves decreasing in opening size from the top down in the device.

The vibrating bars press against the underside of a vibrating screen to form a crown therein when the air mounts are inflated. The vibrating screen is stretched between the sides of the frame by tensioning rails. A shroud over the top of the frame is secured in place. In a particularly preferred manner, the sieve frames are constructed as metal frames. The sieve cleaners clean the sieve screen and clear the product from the base plate. The sieve cleaners preferably have 2, 3 or 4 arms.

The mixture falls through a screen and into a channeling mechanism composed of a series of ridges and valleys. Along each valley are drop-orifices which permit the media/debris mixture to fall therethrough and into an air-stream which carries the mixture to proper collection or sorting mechanism.
