Publication number: 20030209473Abstract: A method and apparatus for sequencing articles via a single sort pass or process includes a plurality of article receivers or collators positioned along a conveying or transport path and a plurality of carriages movable along the path. The carriages receive articles from at least one induct in a generally random manner and discharge the articles at the appropriate collators. The collators are operable to selectively receive the articles at an appropriate one of a plurality of bins of the collators, such that the articles are positioned within the bins of the collators in a sequenced manner. The articles may be unloaded to a plurality of collecting devices and/or manually unloaded and placed or stacked in a container in the desired sequence. The collecting devices may be manually unloaded while the collators simultaneously selectively receive articles during a subsequent sort wave or process.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 6, 2003Publication date: November 13, 2003Inventors: Dick D. Patent number: 6557446Abstract: Diagnostic strips of the kind which are exposed to biological fluids such as blood or urine to detect or monitor medical conditions are cut sequentially from elongated cards by a reciprocating shear blade. The cards may be ones which exhibit defective areas that should not be included in the finished strips. Blade motion seats each newly cut strip on a movable strip carrier which abuts the blade during the cutting operation. The carrier then travels a nondefective strip to a pickup location where it is precisely positioned and picked off of the carrier for emplacement in a housing. A strip with a defective area is carried further to a discharge location where it is released into a waste receptacle. This enables more economical manufacture of diagnostic strips by efficiently making use of nondefective areas of cards that have defective areas.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2001Date of Patent: May 6, 2003Assignee: Kinematic Automation, Inc.Inventors: David L. Patent number: 4406076Abstract: The invention relates to a card index which can be fixed to a vertical wall or vertically mounted on a base, in which the index cards are held by means of clamping devices in a receiving compartment formed in covered manner in the upper part of the index casing and are individually released on operating a selection key and transferred into the lower area of the casing provided with a window-like opening for inspection, the cards being secured and locked in the clamping device, so that a reliable release of the selected cards is possible, including those cards made from a material with a smooth surface such as e.g. plastics foil and in which incorrect manipulations are not possible.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1981Date of Patent: September 27, 1983Assignee: Confon AGInventor: Hans Halm

Patent number: 4249662Abstract: The invention relates to a data register with a register card selection mechanism, whose selector keys connected with the swivel levers are arranged one behind the other and alongside one another in an opening of the housing in such a way that the width of each selector key corresponds to the width of the swivel levers, while the card restraining pins on each swivel lever are formed from U-shaped portions shaped onto the swivel lever end with a rod which engages from below in the register card opening, the drawer being open at the back and at both sides, whereby the two lateral drawer limiting walls are formed by two boundary walls shaped onto the inner wall surface of the housing cover and arranged on either side of the plate-shaped drawer base and whereby the swivel levers are guided on the end carrying the card restraining pin, while the drawer unlocking mechanism comprises a U-shaped shackle directly responsible for the locking and unlocking of the drawer.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1978Date of Patent: February 10, 1981Assignee: Confon AGInventor: Hans Halm
