The upper extremity of these ribs have provided, at least proximate thereto, a series of nubs that are located proximate the greatest circumferential dimension of the roll and which extend radially outwardly beyond such ribs. The reduced end of the roll is prefereably thickened so as to reduce chances of fracturing of material proximate the axial hole with which the roll is provided. There will likewise be supplied protuberance means, spaced from said nubs, which are directed essentially radially outwardly beyond the lower portions of the ribs. These will be less in number than the ribs and are designed to impinge upon potatoes or other agricultural pockets so as to lift upwardly and advance forwardly the potatoes, for example, should the rib traction surface become slick as by filling with dirt, mud or other debris.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1984Date of Patent: December 10, 1985Inventor: Soren E. Patent number: 4421021Abstract: Improvements in a fruit processing juice extractor in which fruit is fed by a feed wheel to conveyors having elastomer cups for holding the fruits and moving them against a stationary cutting knife to provide severed sections which are transported to rotary reamers that remove the juice and juice-bearing material from the peel sections which are subsequently ejected by ejector wheels into a peel chute for delivery to a bar grid in the chute for diverting the peel sections directly to an outlet, or to a separator for separating the juice, pulp and rag from the peel.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1980Date of Patent: December 20, 1983Assignee: Brown International CorporationInventor: Franklin K. Patent number: 4350251Abstract: A mechanism that is suitable for incorporation in an apparatus for handling articles in a closely-spaced array to remove malformed pieces from those properly formed. The invention is especially useful in systems for treating dough pieces, particularly those used in preparing fried chip foods, to remove malformed pieces such as masa lumps. The mechanism can include a rotatable wheel having a plurality of radial blades extending from a central axis for selectively ejecting the malformed articles from a surface on which both the malformed and normally-shaped articles are interpositioned in the array and are conveyed past and below the outermost extremity of the blades. The ejected articles can be collected for recycling or disposal while the remaining acceptably-formed articles are retained for other treatment or use.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1979Date of Patent: September 21, 1982Assignee: Frito-Lay, Inc.Inventor: Howard W. Patent number: 4301930Abstract: In a disk screen apparatus of the type having a series of corotating shafts, each of which has a longitudinal series of concentric screen disks which mesh with the screen disks of the adjacent shafts, the screen disks are carried by tubular modules mounted in end-to-end relation on the shafts. Each module comprises a tubular hub having a set of centrally apertured screen disks concentrically mounted in radially extending relation on the hub, which projects through the central apertures of the disks, the disks being attached to the hub in substantially accurately spaced relation to one another axially along the hub. A method is provided for making the modules, and also for making a disk screen apparatus embodying the modules.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1979Date of Patent: November 24, 1981Assignee: Radar Companies, Inc.Inventor: William C. Patent number: 4240902Abstract: An apparatus for removing foreign matter from cotton includes an elongated frame having a plurality of rollers rotatably supported in closely spaced side-by-side relation therealong for conveying cotton over the rollers from one end of the frame to the other in response to rotation of the rollers in unison. The rollers have a plurality of protrusions so that the cotton is vertically shaken as it is conveyed over the rollers with the result that foreign matter falls between the rollers away from the cotton. The protrusions may be the transversely extended corners of polygonal shaped rollers, the corners being adapted to strike the cotton in response to rotation of the rollers for a more vigorous shaking action. A plate may be supported in vertically spaced relation above the rollers for rebounding cotton which is thrown up by the rollers back toward the rollers. A conveyor belt below the rollers collects the foreign matter which drops therethrough.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1978Date of Patent: December 23, 1980Inventors: John H. Agee, Richard W.
