  • Patent number: 8580123
Abstract: Skimmers, barges and related methods recover heavy oil or bitumen from contaminated water environments such as tailings ponds. The skimmer has an articulated mesh-like conveyor driven around a drum by a drive sprocket. A pusher mechanism discharges bitumen or heavy oil from cavities in the conveyor. In one embodiment, the skimmer includes an automatic depth control system. In other embodiments, knife-edged shear plates remove heavy oil or bitumen adhering to the conveyor and drum. A barge may incorporate multiple parallel skimmers. The barge may include a bitumen-transfer pump having an annular fluid-injection flange that generates an annulus of lubricating fluid inside a discharge hose. A method of skimming heavy oil or bitumen involves using a skimmer that automatically adjusts its elevation or depth based on a control signal generated by a depth sensor. Another method recovers and transfers bitumen by lubricating the discharge hose using the annular fluid-injection flange.

  • Patent number: 8545695
Abstract: The water provisioning system mainly contains a selection switch, a water volume switch, a human-machine interface (HMI), a RO waste water recycling device, an electromagnetic valve, a RO water purification device, an antichlor device, an aeration pipe assembly, a first ozone module, and a second ozone module. The selection switch selects a type of water to use. The RO water purification device filters water from a low-temperature water source, stores purified water in a storage barrel, and provides high-quality drinking water. The 70% water from the RO water purification process that fails the drinking water standard is recycled through the RO waste water recycling device. The low-temperature water source is connected to an antichlor device and the water is therefore dechlorinated. The first and second ozone modules are used to produce ozonated water and to release ozone through the aeration pipe assembly into the kitchen cabinet for deodorization and sterilization.

The liquid to be treated is directed through a conduit within the separator. Preferably the conduit within the separator is configured into a tortuous flow path to assist in the separation of solids from the liquid. Vibrational energy is applied to the flow path, preferably through the flow path conduit. As solids fall out of solution, they are collected. The clarified liquid is also collected. A vacuum can be applied to the system to assist in moving the solid-liquid mixture through the system and to provide vacuum clarification. • Patent number: 8206594
Abstract: A novel system and method for fluid management for accurate continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CWH) in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The fluid management or CWH system is automated and configured for operation as a stand alone unit and can be easily integrated with an ECMO system. The fluid management system is capable of producing either perfect or negative fluid balance between ultrafiltrate removal and replacement fluid delivery. The fluid management system can achieve electrolyte replacement over a range of flow rates needed to care for patients ranging from neonates to adults. Finally, the novel fluid management system preserves patient safety, maintains sterility during operation, is easy to operate, and is compact enough to fit near a patient's bed.

  • Patent number: 8196596
Abstract: A method for tracking a pollution source in process water is presented. Firstly, variation curves of drain water drained from different rinsing tanks are respectively obtained, and a water quality concentration of the drain water drained to a buffer tank is detected, so as to output a water quality variation curve. Then, an analytical comparison is performed on each drain water amount variation curve and the water quality variation curve within a same time interval, so as to output an analytical result of each flow of drain water in a range exceeding a predetermined water quality standard. In this manner, the drain water that exceeds the predetermined water quality standard can be tracked in real-time according to the analytical result, thereby quickly improving the process for discharging the drain water.

Abstract: A reservoir for use with a blood collection system includes a housing, a pre-filter, and a spring mechanism. The housing defines a cavity and has an inlet for receiving fluid from a source. The pre-filter is located within the cavity, removes particulates contained within the fluid, and allows the fluid to pass through the pre-filter. The spring mechanism is connected to the pre-filter and allows the pre-filter to travel within the cavity as the pre-filter collects particulates.

Abstract: The water conservation system provides for the controlled circulation of heated water between an overhead water tank, which is mounted on the roof of a building, and an underground water tank for storing cooled water. The overhead tank has a feed outlet, a circulation outlet, and a circulation inlet formed therein. A first conduit is provided, with a lower end thereof being positioned within the underground tank. A pump draws water from within the underground tank, which is delivered to a second conduit. An upper end thereof is in fluid communication with the overhead tank. A third conduit is further provided, having an upper end in communication with the overhead tank and a lower end in communication with the underground tank. A programmable valve selectively controls water flow out of the overhead tank, which is delivered, via the third conduit, to the underground tank by gravity.
