The heater can actively increase the pressure in the container by heating the liquid and/or gas in the container. Sometimes, a portion of the liquid stored in the air-tight container may be vaporized, which increases the pressure in the container as well. Under the increased pressure, the liquid can be easily driven out of the container while being purified via the filter membrane. Since the filtration is actively driven by heating, the filtration efficiency of the apparatus can be controlled and improved according to various applications.

  • Patent number: 8758605
Abstract: A bottle comprises a cap, a reservoir having an open top closeable by the cap, and a filter holder that houses a filter, the filter holder being coupled to the cap such that a liquid in the reservoir is filtered by the filter as the liquid is being consumed, and the filter is fluidly decoupled from the reservoir when the cap is disengaged from the reservoir. Preferred filters can be constructed out of high reactivity carbon mixture, activated carbon, iodinated resin, combinations thereof, or any other suitable compositions for filtering water or other liquids, and can be molded into any suitable size and shape. Preferred filter holder can have a top portion and a bottom portion that couple together via a snap fitting, mating threads, or any suitable means, which allow access to the filter, and which have numerous vents that allow liquid to freely flow through the filter.

  • Publication number: 20140138321
Abstract: A system comprises an input, a brine chamber, a water softening chamber, and an output. One or more valves are configured to selectively prevent fluid communication of water from the input into the brine chamber; and to selectively permit communication of brine from the brine chamber to the water softening chamber when water is not being communicated through the input. The output is configured to output water softened in the water softening chamber. The one or more valves may include a first valve and a second valve. The first valve may be responsive to water being communicated through the input. The second valve may be responsive to either manual actuation or a fluid level in the brine chamber. The system may further include a cartridge that is removably coupled with the water softening chamber. The cartridge may contain salt and may further define the brine chamber.

  • Publication number: 20140027361
Abstract: A filtration system includes a filter assembly removably coupled with a manifold. The coupling of the filter assembly coupled with the manifold aligns an intake port of the filter assembly with an inlet tube of the manifold and communicates a flow tube of the filter assembly with an exit tube of the manifold. The filter assembly pushes a shut-off valve of the manifold from its normally closed position to its open position. Liquid then flows into the filter assembly from the inlet tube of the manifold and filtered liquid flows into exit tube of the manifold from the flow tube of the filter assembly. The filter assembly further pushes a pressure relief valve of the manifold from its normally open position to its closed position.
