  • Patent number: 5658457
Abstract: A reverse osmosis water purification system which has a tank coupled to an osmotic membrane so that the water within the tank flushes the osmotic membrane. The tank has an opening that is in fluid communication with a source of feed water and an osmotic membrane. The tank may also have a lower level switch and an upper level switch that are coupled to a pump that pumps water through the membrane. When the tank water falls to the level of the lower switch, the pump is activated and purified water is pump into the tank. When the tank water reaches the level of the upper switch the pump is deactivated. The opening is located at an elevation above the membrane, so that when the water level within the tank reaches the height of the opening, the feed water pump turns off and the tank water provides a hydrostatic pressure that drives the water back through the membrane to flush the same. The upper switch is located above the opening so that a sufficient amount of water flows back through the membrane.

  • Patent number: 5503735
Abstract: A liquid purification system is disclosed. In this system water is pumped into a filter cartridge. A reverse osmosis filter membrane in the filter cartridge removes impurities from the water, but not all of the water passes through the membrane. Water passing through the membrane exits the filter cartridge through a first outlet port, and is sent to a storage tank. Water not passing through the filter membrane exits the filter cartridge through a second outlet port. This water then passes through a pressure relief valve. The pressure relief valve can be adjusted to vary the water pressure and flow rates in the system. Some of the water exiting the pressure relief valve passes through a flow restrictor valve and then to drain. The flow restrictor maintains a constant flow rate at variable pressures. In this system, the flow restrictor is operable to maintain the same flow rate through it to drain and through the first filter outlet port.

  • Patent number: 5320755
Abstract: When applying a method and an arrangement for purifying water, an inflow of contaminated water is converted to a pressure elevated flow which is divided in a purifying unit into a purified outflow and a contaminated outflow, which in turn is divided into a return flow and a reject flow. With the intention of providing a large return flow under high pressure for the purpose of rinsing clean the filter unit during operation, the return flow includes a first return flow (return conduit 24) which is recycled to the pressure-elevated flow (pressure conduit 16) and which is larger than the inflow, and further includes a second return flow which is pressure-restricted with respect to the first return flow, and the second return flow is returned to the inflow.

  • Patent number: 5312552
Abstract: The present invention entails a method and an apparatus for removing BTX-type gases from a liquid. Herein is disclosed a system where purified water from an oil-water separator is directed into a vacuum chamber. The chamber is closed and a vacuum is pulled on the purified water causing BTX-type gases associated with the water to vaporize and assume a space in the upper portion of the vacuum chamber. The pressure within the vacuum chamber is continuously sensed as well as the liquid level within the chamber. Once the pressure within the vacuum chamber has reached a predetermined level and the level of the purified water is within a certain range within the vacuum chamber, then the BTX-type gases are removed via a vacuum pump and these BTX gases are collected in a collector where they are condensed to form a liquid.

  • Patent number: 5310481
Abstract: In a separator for separating a mixture of fluids of different densities into a high density fraction and a low density fraction, the mixture is introduced into a tank which is divided into a plurality of separation chambers and a collection chamber. As the mixture flows through the chambers it is separated into high and low density fractions with progressively more distinct differentials of density. The rate of fluid flow through the separator is controlled in part by the size of the separation chambers and by an automatic electro-mechanical control system. The control system includes several floats suspended within the fluids, wherein the level of at least one float is indicative of the level of high density fraction in the separator, and the level of at least one other float is indicative of the level of the low density fraction in the separator.

  • Patent number: 5254243
Abstract: An electric control for a water conditioning system includes a solenoid valve which controls water inlet into the system and which is controlled by a flow switch that senses product water flow from a water faucet or other outlet. The flow switch also energizes an indicator lamp for indicating processing of water. The flow switch also controls a second solenoid valve which allows water flow into the pressure or "squeeze" side of a bladder type product water storage tank. When product water flow occurs, the second solenoid valve opens to permit supply water to flow therein, providing additional pressure to the product water side of the storage tank. Accordingly, product water flow is effected from the storage tank to the product water outlet. When a predetermined low pressure is sensed, a pressure switch located on the product water side of the storage tank opens the first solenoid valve to supply water to the system for processing.

  • Patent number: 5248417
Abstract: Double flow-through filtration apparatus requiring the bulk of the water to be treated to twice flow through filtering media contained within a filter housing. The housing includes an inlet port for receiving water from a source; a combination port for water flow to and from a storage tank and an outlet port which may lead to a water tap. Untreated water from a source flows into the filter housing through the inlet port. A cup type check valve prevents flow directly to the storage tank, forcing the water through the filter media for a first treatment. A filter tube, extending through the media, in cooperation with a check valve of the slip type, permits once treated water to flow to a storage tank and prevents backflow into the tube. Once the water tap is opened, the once treated water flows form the storage tank, through the combination port, by the cup valve, and through the filter media a second time before exiting the outlet port of the housing and the tap.
