  • Patent number: 7303687
Abstract: An insert apparatus for placement in a rain gutter includes a porous insert body including a plurality of randomly arranged filaments attached to one another to form a mat. The insert apparatus is shaped to fit within an inside channel of a rain gutter. Optionally, the apparatus may include a cover panel, comprising a screen, attached to the top of the insert body. Additionally, the apparatus may include a panel provided with holes therethrough, covering the screen panel. In use, the insert apparatus is placed inside of the gutter channel so as to substantially fill part of the channel, blocking entry of debris into the gutter. When placed in the gutter channel, the insert apparatus substantially prevents foreign matter such as leaves, twigs, pine needles, etc, from collecting in the channel. The insert apparatus may be configured to leave an open flow path therebelow when installed in the gutter.

  • Patent number: 7048850
Abstract: A traveling water screen comprising an endless foraminous belt with flights. The foraminous belt forms a water screen extending from a lower end in a flowing stream to an upper end above the surface of the stream. The stream flows through openings in the foraminous screen. The flights, which may be scoops, are arranged in spaced apart relation on the outer surface of the water screen. The water screen is driven in a direction so that its upstream portion advances upward and its downstream portion downward. The flights form inclined surfaces across the width of the screen from a point of highest elevation to one or more points of lowest elevation at one or both side edges of the screen. As the screen moves, the flights lift fish toward the surface. As a flight breaks the surface, fish slide down the inclined flights toward one or both side edges of the screen to be diverted safely.

  • Patent number: 7011743
Abstract: A chamber having an inlet for receiving polluted storm-water runoff and an outlet for the storm water to flow out. Within the chamber are one or more baffles forming gaps and having apertures. The gaps define a longer water flow route through the chamber and the apertures disperse the storm water within the chamber. This increases storm-water residence time which encourages settling of particulate matter such as sand and grit. In alternative embodiments, there are included a screen, a collection reservoir, and/or a pivotal filter for further dispersing, detaining, and/or filtering the storm water.

Abstract: A system to restrict and remove debris and pollutants from runoff water received from surrounding areas. A receptacle receives the runoff water, and a grate detains the heavier part of its solids burden. A first screen within the receptacle detains solids of lesser size. Water passed by the first screen encounters a tubular second screen in the receptacle which passes water that was additionally screened by it and sends it to a downstream system. A weir at a sensitive level in the receptacle can by-pass the second screen. The second screen is preferably rotatable.

  • Patent number: 6346199
Abstract: A sediment filtering apparatus and a method for removing sediment from a waterway. One or more collector assemblies are secured to a river bottom and have a leading, ramp surface facing upstream and over which the water flows. As the water/sediment mixture passes the apex of the collector, the trailing edge drops off rapidly thereby reducing the stream velocity and allowing the sediment to settle from the flow. The sediment then collects on the downstream side of the collector and via one or more openings reaches an internal cavity. A suction pipe is placed under negative pressure and draws the water/sediment mixture to a filtering apparatus which then returns filtered water to the waterway. The sediment and debris filtered therefrom is then easily removed.

  • Patent number: 6245225
Abstract: A staged filter apparatus (1) for mechanically separating solids from liquids flowing in channels, gutters or conduits, which has a multiplicity of stage screen bars (7′) connected to form a stationary grating (7), and a multiplicity of stage screen bars (6′) connected to form a movable grating (6), the gratings (6, 7) being arranged inclined in the direction of flow inside the flowing liquid starting from a level situated below the surface, and the stage screen bars (6′, 7′) being constructed in a stepped fashion in the direction facing the incoming flow, and in which the movable grating (6) can be actuated by means of a drive device (8) on a track. The stationary grating (7) being surrounded at least laterally by frame parts (3, 4), is distinguished in that all the drive elements (11, 12, 19; 13) of the movable grating (6) are essentially arranged in the common plane formed by the stationary grating (7) and the movable grating (6) in the zero position.

Abstract: A stormwater pollution separator and filter apparatus to be fitted inline in a stormwater conduit. The apparatus has an inlet (1) receiving stormwater and leading through an inlet aperture (3) to a separation chamber (4) which then leads to a filtration chamber (5) which is positioned below the inlet aperture (3). A riser (6) leads from the filtration chamber (5) to an outlet (7) which is connected back to the stormwater conduit (3). The inlet opening is connected tangentially into the separation chamber (4) to create, in use, a swirl action in the separation chamber (4) by reason of the flow of the stormwater. The separation chamber (4) is positioned vertically above the filtration chamber (5), and the filtration chamber (5) has one or more filtration baskets (9) positioned in the filtration chamber (5) to receive substantially all the flow of stormwater from the separation chamber (4), the baskets (9) are spaced apart from a wall (10) defining a periphery of the filtration chamber (5).

  • Patent number: 6190545
Abstract: A drainwater treatment system positionable within a horizontal flow passage of a drainage system utilizes a partition which divides the flow passage into an upstream chamber and a downstream chamber. In addition, a mid-panel is supported within the upstream chamber for dividing the interior of the upstream chamber into an upper section and a lower section so that the drainwater enters the upper section before entering the lower section through a first opening provided in the mid-panel. A conduit is also joined between a second opening provided in the mid-panel and the opening of the partition for conducting drainwater from the lower section of the upstream chamber to the downstream chamber so that the drainwater which enters the upper section and then into the lower section is decelerated to flow conditions at which debris and suspended are permitted to separate and settle from the drainwater before being conducted from the lower section and into the downstream chamber through the conduit.
