Having Bypass Line Patents (Class 210/167.05)
  • Patent number: 11052335
Abstract: An oil filter adapter device may be used to enable an engine or other machine that was manufactured for using cartridge oil filters to use spin-on oil filters. In some examples, the oil filter adapter may have a docking collar for coupling with an engine, a cylindrical base for coupling with an oil filter housing, and an attachment piece for coupling with a spin-on oil filter. The oil filter adapter may also have a spring disposed between the docking collar and the cylindrical base such that the docking collar is compressible relative to the cylindrical base to allow the oil filter adapter is able to couple to a variety of oil filter housings ranging in size and shape.

  • Patent number: 9109478
Abstract: The present invention teaches a method and apparatus to quickly and inexpensively implement advanced filtration to engines and systems using spin-on oil filter by using a system adapter sandwiched between the spin-on oil filter and the engine block affixed by a nipple adapter. The adapter makes quick hydraulic connection to the inlet and outlet of a bypass grade or advanced filter, without modifications to the engine, as is the paradigm by traditional bypass filtration systems and without removing lubricant from the engine or system as is the paradigm of traditional bypass filtering systems. A differential pressure between said inlet and outlet side of the spin-on filter is complemented by a Venturi effect and fluid kinetic energy made possible by the special architecture of the nipple adapter and adapter.

  • Patent number: 8894847
Abstract: A liquid reclamation assembly is provided for processing a lubricant or other liquid. The assembly includes a housing interior for receiving a filter subassembly. A manifold is in fluid communication with a discharge region of the filter subassembly, the manifold comprising a primary manifold passage for passage of source fluid and a series of draw ports. The cross sectional area of the primary manifold passage is greater than the total cross sectional area of the series of draw ports to create a venturi effect to draw fluid through the assembly. The filter subassembly includes a series of target filtration segment, each segment being designed for a specific reclamation process. An entry manifold governs and distributes the fluid to each of the target filtration segments. Results of an analysis of the fluid can be used to determine which target filtration segments are desired for processing the fluid. Valves within the entry manifold can direct the flow accordingly.

  • Patent number: 8486277
Abstract: An internal bypass filtration circuit including a microfine depth filtration cartridge, which operates in combination with the sump filter of an automatic transmission is disclosed. The present depth filtration cartridge functions to remove particulate matter as small as five microns to improve fluid cleanliness level without restricting fluid flow to the pump ensuring its volumetric efficiency. In one embodiment transmission fluid passes through a calibrated orifice in the bypass circuit to regulate flow to the depth filtration cartridge. In an alternate embodiment the depth filter media itself regulates filtration below a predetermined fluid pressure. The internal bypass circuit is installed by accessing a pressurized fluid circuit in the transmission valve body. A hydraulic bypass line interconnects such pressurized fluid circuit with the depth filtration cartridge, which is mounted internally of the transmission housing.

  • Patent number: 8449767
Abstract: An oil reservoir having an oil inlet fitting and at least one oil outlet fitting for connecting to a hydraulic system. The reservoir comprising a housing having a lower housing part and a reservoir cover which is connected to the lower housing part and includes an integrated oil filter. An oil filler neck, which can be closed by a cap, is configured on the housing cover. The reservoir housing is equipped with at least one guide element which is attached to at least one inside wall of the reservoir housing and forms a circular guidance track for the oil. This guidance track forces the oil flow in a circular manner, after entering the reservoir and passing through the oil filter but before exiting the oil reservoir, such that any air which may be present is separated from the oil and can exit the oil reservoir via an air outlet.

  • Patent number: 8425769
Abstract: A filter arrangement includes a filter cartridge having a first filter element and a second filter element. The first filter element includes a first tubular section of filter media extending between first and second end caps and defining a first open filter interior. The second filter element includes a second tubular section of filter media operably oriented in the first open filter interior. The second tubular section of filter media extends between third and fourth end caps and defines a second open filter interior. The first end cap defines an inner container and an outer container circumscribing the inner container. The outer container is secured to the first tubular section of filter media. The inner container has an end wall axially spaced from the outer container. The third end cap has a media end secured to the second tubular section of filter media and a tubular wall axially extending from the media end. The tubular wall is circumscribed by the inner container of the first end cap.

  • Patent number: 8231793
Abstract: A cartridge type filter is mounted in a housing and is serviced through the top of the housing. The cartridge includes first and second media packs axially stacked. The second media pack is in series behind the first media pack, and filters a portion of the liquid therethrough. The second media pack has a higher efficiency than the first media pack. The overall design has a drain system which allows liquid to drain from the interior of the filter housing and back to the sump before the filter cartridge is completely removed from the housing. Other optional features include an oil cooler, various valving, and a filter cartridge lockout mechanism.
