For Aquarium Patents (Class 210/167.21)
  • Patent number: 11690360
Abstract: A filter arrangement for an aquarium is disclosed. The filter arrangement can include a housing assembly, a pump assembly, a transfer tube assembly, and a valve assembly for controlling water flow through the transfer tube assembly. The transfer tube assembly can include a tube structure within which a valve body of the valve assembly is rotatably disposed. The tube structure can be formed from a first tube half mated to a second tube half to permanently secure the valve body within the tube structure. A valve operator can be connected to the valve body to advantageously allow a user to manipulate the flow of water through the transfer tube assembly. Control of water flow through the filter arrangement is beneficial for obtaining a desired water flow for a certain aquarium size and application and for reducing flow during certain periods, such as during feeding.

  • Patent number: 10913674
Abstract: An apparatus (12) for treating water, in particular for removing surfactants from waste water, includes a vessel (14), defining an inlet (16) for receiving waste water containing air bubbles, and an outlet (20) for the exit of water, following treatment. Inside the vessel there is at least one tubular member (50) having a lower open end (52) into which the flow of waste water from the inlet may be directed in use. The tubular member (50) extends from the inlet towards a top of the vessel where an upper exit (54) from the tubular member is defined. In use, most un-aerated water entering the vessel through the inlet can exit the tubular member at the lower open end. Foam formed in the water by the air bubbles may travel up the tubular member to the upper exit, which is preferably located above the water level (60) in the vessel.

Abstract: A media reactor aquarium filter incorporates a simple design and allows simple media replacement. The filter includes co-axial inner and outer tubes. The outer tube includes a mounting feature and the inner tube holds the media and is removable without disturbing the outer tube. A pump at the base of the filter pumps water into the inner tube through ports at the base of the inner tube and up through the inner tube, and this through the media. The filtered water then flows though the top wall of the inner tube and down between the inner and outer tubes, and back into the aquarium. The inner tube is rotatable to vary the alignment of the ports to adjust the water flow rate through the filter.

  • Patent number: 8800496
Abstract: A water circulation pump pre-filter unit (PFU). The PFU is submerged and provides structure to camouflage the system to give a natural and aesthetic look. The PFU comprises at least two cleaning systems: (1) biological cleaning mechanism; and (2) an internal self-cleaning mechanism. Specifically, the PFU comprises several filtering surfaces that form a repository for pond debris on which fish and other aquatic creatures feed, i.e., the biological cleaning mechanism. These filtering surfaces of the PFU also provide a protective barrier that prevents large debris from entering the circulation pump. The internal self-cleaning mechanism is a spray wash water source mechanism used to clean the PFU without removing the PFU or fish from the pond or entering the water. Together these features improve the quality of the water in the pond and extend the life of a pump.

The chamber space between the walls is accessed by a fluid inlet port and a fluid outlet port between which the fluid flows. The inlet port is connected to a conduit/tubing from the fluid source and the outlet port is interconnected with a conduit/tubing that is free of breach points and interconnects to the patient access point. The inner wall allows for transmission of UV light into the fluid space. The walls define a space therebetween that is relatively small radially, allowing for a sufficient flow rate, but providing a large surface area and small fluid depth for exposure to the UV light. • Patent number: 7682503
Abstract: An improved and more efficient design for an air driven algae filtration system is achieved because there are no moving parts other than an air pump, and the air is used twice. After using air to circulate water through a filtration unit, the air, still under pressure, is separated from the water. The air is then plumbed to other apparatuses or used for cooling. This allows the filter to be utilized using less electricity. The water is de-gassed before reaching the algae filter. Therefore, no splash guard is necessary to prevent water from splashing the lights. With no splash guard, lower wattage lights can be used to illuminate the algae. This also increases the efficiency of this system. This filter also lends itself to maintaining a reef aquarium.

Abstract: The application device for liquid containing micro-nano bubbles generates micro-nano bubbles in a wide size distribution with use of a submerged pump-type micro-nano bubble generator and a spiral flow-type micro-nano bubble generator. A micro-nano bubble generating aid metering pump is controlled by a bubble level meter and a level controller, so that the supply amount of a micro-nano bubble generating aid is controlled in response to the level of bubbles from a fluid level. The supply amount of a micro-nano bubble generating aid is also controlled by a turbidimeter and a controller in response to the turbidity of the liquid in a micro-nano bubble generation tank, while the amount of air supplied to the submerged pump-type micro-nano bubble generator is controlled in response to the turbidity of the liquid. Therefore, the device can produce a large amount of various micro-nano bubbles in a wide size distribution more economically.

Abstract: A dual pump water treatment system for automatically replenishing the water level within a tank of a marine reef aquarium by alternating between a calcium solution reservoir and an alkalinity solution reservoir. The calcium reservoir is in connection with a first pump, while the alkalinity reservoir is in connection with a second pump. The system includes a pair of water level sensors in communication with a solid state relay on a printed circuit board of a switch box. When the water level drops the sensor triggers the relay to turn on the calcium reservoir. When the water level is replenished the first pump is turned off. When the water level drops again, the sensor triggers the relay to turn on the alkalinity reservoir. When the water level is replenished the second pump is turned off. The cycle is repeated based on water level in the tank.

Abstract: This self contained, add-on, self cleaning, instant reverse flush aquarium and/or fish-pond filter system is designed to capture all aquarium and/or pond solid detritus and to deposit them in the spaces between a heavy marbles-like filter substrate in such a way that these detritus can then be often and regularly evacuated by reverse-flush action from the filter-body and the vessel containing this filter-body, very fast, very easily, without any in-tank manual intervention and with a minimal amount of water wastage. This instant reverse-flush aquarium and/or fish-pond filter system will be available in many various sizes, shapes or models that can be added at any time to any aquatic life containing vessel of any shape or size, with the purpose of easily evacuating pollution causing debris as often as possible, hereby minimising the need for biological and/or chemical filtration stages and also drastically reducing other stress causing maintenance.

  • Patent number: 7578933
Abstract: This invention provides a filtration system for home aquaria that uses a closed-circuit pathway having a surface that contacts a flow of water moving between a tank inlet and tank outlet. The surface allows for algal growth thereon, and for transmission of light thereonto so as to provide photosynthetic energy to the algae. The algae acts to scrub contaminants (nitrogenous compounds, for example) as part of its growth cycle, and thereby purify the water. Additional components, such as injected air and filter media can also be provided to the water circuit to enhance algal growth, oxygenate the water and remove particulates. In an illustrative embodiment, the surface is transparent or translucent and a light that transmits appropriate wavelengths (for example, full-visible spectrum) is placed in proximity to the surface.

Abstract: Enhancements to the Double Drain technology used for separation of settle-able solid wastes previously developed. Anti-vortex fins are added to the central clarified effluent water manifold to minimize re-suspension of settled solids. A further aspect includes the addition of a slotted horizontal cover plate to a solid waste collection sump below the tank floor. These additions significantly increase the effectiveness of the Double Drain system for separation of settle-able solid waste from fish culture water. The enhanced Double Drain Tank design with the anti-vortex feature could also be used in non-fish culture applications to enhance the separation of settle-able solids from any liquid waste water flow.
