Abstract: The present invention relates to an improvement in filtering apparatus including a filter device externally hitched on a wall surface of a aquarium for breeding aquarium fishes. In the outside-type filtering apparatus including a filter device (F) and detachably supported in an externally hitched manner on a wall surface of a aquarium (V), and a water pump (P) for pumping water stored in the aquarium (V), the filter device (F) is formed so that the water pumped from the water pump (P) is divided into a first flow which is returned into the aquarium (V) as remaining unfiltered, and a second flow which is filtered through a filter element and then returned into the aquarium (V) in dependence on a siphon effect. Thus, it is possible to enhance the filtering action provided by the filter element of the filter device and the organically purifying function provided by aerobic microorganisms, and to suppress the clogging of the filter element to reduce the maintenance frequency of the filter element.

The filtering is conducted using one or several filter elements in the filter housing, the operation being based on the alternation of filtering stages and air flushing stages. According to the invention, upon transferring from the flushing stage to the filtering stage, the filter housing is filled with liquid so that the liquid pushes the flushing air in the housing from the upper end of the housing into a separate air container so that air is compressed to a higher pressure in the container. During the filtering stage, air remains in the container, and after the filtering stage, air compressed in the container is allowed to push liquid out of the filter housing with its pressure. Further, the connection between the air container and the filter housing can be arranged so that air compressed in the container participates in the backflushing of the filter elements.

The filter cartridge is housed in a housing having an essentially central symmetry comprising a housing base and a cover which is designed to be screwed on. In order to avoid leakage residual liquid when the filter housing is opened, especially if the liquid filter is mounted horizontally, a drain screw (22) is actuated before the housing is opened, and in order to achieve the highest possible degree of drainage, the drain screw is moved to the lowest possible position by rotating a threaded member (11) by at most 360°. • Patent number: 6488845
Abstract: An oil filter assembly includes a filter housing and a release valve for regulating oil drainage from a filter chamber in the filter housing. A filter module is arranged in the filter chamber to engage the release valve. A first biasing element normally moves the release valve to an opened position allowing drainage of oil from the filter chamber to urge the filter module to cause the release valve to move against and overcome a biasing force generated by the first biasing element to the closed position when the filter module is installed in a oil-filtering position in the filter housing.

  • Patent number: 6485637
Abstract: A liquid filter, suitable for the lubricating oil of an internal combustion engine, having a cartridge installation opening 15 which faces substantially downward, a positively guided oil drain 28 is proposed for draining oil from the filter when the filter cartridge is changed. The positive guidance is effected by a valve stem 29 which is connected directly or indirectly to the housing by a support tube 22. It opens a gasketed drain opening which can be connected to a hose 35 in order to assure drainage of oil, for example, to a separate oil collecting vessel. The drain opening is automatically opened by unscrewing the screw-on cover 11. No other drain plug or the like needs to be opened. This filter is especially suited for installation in confined spaces since the oil can be drained in a reliable manner.

  • Patent number: 6461505
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for dewatering aqueous suspensions including a pair of rotatable rolls forming a nip therebetween, so that the aqueous suspension can pass downwardly through the nip and be dewatered by removing a filtrate from the suspension, and the dewatered suspension can pass downwardly from the nip, at least one of the rolls being liquid permeable, and at least one screen adjacent to the roll and disposed below the nip, the screen is separated from the roll by a predetermined distance and extends along its length, the predetermined distance being a sufficient distance so that a film of filtrate on the roll passes between the roll and upper end of the screen on one side of the screen and the dewatered suspension passes on the other side of the screen so that the filtrate is prevented from contacting the dewatered suspension below the nip.

  • Patent number: 6461862
Abstract: Malodorous gas is removed from mineral water by spraying the water through a stream of air, and collecting the sprayed water, which is circulated through the spraying operation. The collected sprayed water is passed through a filter. Some of the filtered and deodorized water is delivered to individual spas. A first heater keeps water circulated through the tank at a comfortable temperature. A second heater warms the air stream passing into the sprayed water to facilitate removal of malodorous gas.

Abstract: A filter arrangement for liquids including a filter element (6) that can be axially inserted into a filter housing (4) during assembly of the filter arrangement (1). After installation, this filter element (6) seals a back flow device at least for the liquid to be filtered with at least one seal (12) in front of a return flow channel (16). The device is configured in such a way that as the filter element (6) is axially withdrawn, a first seal (12 ; 20; 30; 40) can be initially released to enable return flow of unfiltered liquid, and as the filter element (6) continues to be axially withdrawn, a second seal (18; 22; 41) can be released to enable return flow of filtered liquid.

  • Patent number: 6379541
Abstract: A pollution control device (10) for removal of litter and sediments from a flowing stream of stormwater or the like, the device including an upwardly inclined flume (11,18) adapted to be disposed adjacent the discharge end of a stormwater outlet (16) with a collection container (12) at the opposite end of the flume, the flume (18) and the container (12) being fabricated from expanded metal mesh screen. During stormwater flow, litter entrained with the stormwater is urged up the inclined path of the flume (18) for collection in the container (12) whereas sediments are screened from the flume (18) and the container (12) through apertures in the expanded metal screen and pass through to a sediment sump (29) disposed beneath the device (10). Stormwater which has been so screened is then permitted to flow further downstream. A method of separating litter and sediments from a flowing stream of stormwater is also claimed.
