  • Patent number: 7887702
Abstract: A filtering apparatus is provided for filtering raw water containing various impurities and mixtures into purified water, and more particularly, a multistage filtering apparatus is provided in which a rotor for generating vortex are installed in each of multiple layers of filtration membrane stacked within a closed barrel and the rotors are formed in multistage by having different diameter of each rotor so that the power for generating vortex can be remarkably minimized by generating the vertical vortex from top and bottom of the rotary rotor and the horizontal vortex from the outer side of circumference plate of the rotary rotor to be crossed over between membranes to prevent from blocking the pores or remove the deposited pollutants, and the closed-type barrel having multistage of membranes, rotary shaft, and rotary rotors for vortex generation within are constructed as a single module of filter pack, and the filter pack is connected and extended in accordance with required purified capacity so that large s

  • Patent number: 7765813
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus and process for cooling and de-steaming hot calcined stucco used in the production of gypsum boards or bagged plaster. The apparatus is a fluid bed stucco cooler and comprises a cooler housing having a plenum having a stucco inlet and stucco outlet. The stucco cooler includes a rotating disk in the plenum. The rotating disk includes nozzle for spraying fluid, and is attached to a rotable shaft extending from the side of the cooler also includes a fluidization pad and agitator to help to mix the air and the stucco powder to insure fluidization, prevent channeling, and prevent the stucco powder from building up on the various components. The air also forces steam from the hot calcined stucco out through an air outlet located at the top of the stucco cooler, thereby de-steaming the stucco. The stucco flows through the plenum and passes over the cooling coils, thereby cooling the stucco as it reaches the stucco outlet.

  • Patent number: 7163630
Abstract: In a vessel containing a filter bed and containing a mixed liquor containing suspended solids, a system disturbs/dislodges a sludge mat that settles on the filter bed. Thus, the system controls the sludge mat on the filter bed that otherwise may blind the filter bed and significantly reduce or stop process liquid flow into and through the filter bed. The system helps maintain effective vessel effluent flowrates with reduced requirements for filter bed backwashing or other filter bed maintenance. The system includes a sludge mat dislodging member that moves along the filter bed surface, preferably on but substantially not inside the filter bed, to disrupt/dislodge the sludge mat and/or prevent formation of the sludge mat. Preferably, the dislodging member is carried inside the vessel on a moving arm or arms that rotate in a plane parallel to the filter bed surface. The preferred sludge mat dislodging member(s) hang from the rotating arm(s) to slide along the top of the filter bed through the sludge mat.

  • Patent number: 7097766
Abstract: The present invention is a media-based fluid filtration system that extends the time between backwashing operations and prevents the agglomeration of filtered particles at the top of the media bed through the use of a plurality of rotating vanes and associated tines that continuously agitate the upper portion of the filtration media to create a fluidized bed. The fluid stream to be filtered is introduced at the top of a generally cylindrical filtration chamber at a tangential angle to induce a helical flow inside the chamber. The chamber contains one or more layers of filtering media such as sand, gravel, or the like below the inlet. The incoming fluid stream makes contact with a plurality of pivotally mounted vanes, causing them to rotate. One or more downwardly extending tines are attached to each blade, extending down from the blade into the top layer of the filtering media.

  • Patent number: 6802970
Abstract: A fluid-treating device containing a distributing device having a revolving disc in a stationary housing, and a motor for rotating the disc. Feed and discharge pipes are connected to an end wall of the housing and open onto the revolving disc. Stationary vessels are connected to the housing via connecting pipes. The revolving disc includes a plurality of passageways that open on the outer side of the disc. For a number of positions of the disc, the passageways are each connected to one of the connecting pipes, while feed and discharge pipes open via ring-like ducts into different passageways.

  • Patent number: 5902488
Abstract: A slow sand filter system having a slow sand filter located under water and a scraping mechanism. The scraping mechanism has at least one auger and a shaft, the auger extending across the width of the slow sand filter and being supported in the center thereof by the shaft such that the auger is horizontal. The auger may have a shroud located along the length of the auger and spaced therefrom. The auger moves the schmutzdecke layer across the slow sand filter. The slow sand filter system may have recycle, to permit passing water through the slow sand filter system at a rate less than the maximum vertical flow rate and recycle of a portion of said water passing through the slow sand filter system back to the body of water and removal of the remainder of the water to another location. The method permits operation of the slow sand filter system to provide a variable supply of water without minimal disruption of the filter system.

  • Patent number: 5061080
Abstract: A rotary agitator for use in filter systems has a horizontal arm formed of a single, elongate, hollow tubular section. An opening through the peripheral wall of the tubular section at substantially the midpoint thereof communicates with the hollow interior of the tubular section. An external rotor section of a central bearing assembly is secured directly to the hollow tubular section in a region overlying the opening through the peripheral wall of the tubular section. The external rotor section has a passageway therethrough communicating with the opening through the peripheral wall of the tubular section. The central bearing assembly further includes an elongate stator positioned interiorly of the external rotor section. The passage through the elongate stator is aligned with and in communication with the opening through the peripheral wall of the tubular section.

  • Patent number: 4399042
Abstract: Filter elements are constructed of an array of parallel, spaced-apart rods, a plurality of spaced-apart bars fixed normal to the rods on one side of the array forming a multitude of cavities between the bars and above the surface of the array. Filter media comprising crushed aggregate bound in a matrix of cured resin fills the cavities to just below the plane of the top edge of the bars.Filter apparatus is provided having a rigid filter bed and including a scraper blade to be moved above the filter bed in contact with the top surface thereof to lift portions of filter cake from the filter bed. The scraper blade includes means to apply a vacuum through a surface of the blade.A new filtering method applies vacuum to the portions of filter cake lifted by the scraper blade causing relatively rapid removal of filtrate therefrom and producing an incoherent mass of particles of relatively dry filtered material.
