A first remotely controlled three way valve associated with the first tank port controls the fluid communication of a source manifold and a regeneration discharge manifold with the first tank port of each tank. A second, remotely controlled three way valve controls the fluid communication of a product receiving manifold and a regeneration chemistry supply manifold with the second port of each tank. A regeneration control monitors the loading of each tank and initiates regeneration in a given tank when that tank reaches a predetermined exhaustion level.

A method is also provided for regenerating the WAC resin from sodium and ammonium exhaustants. Rinse water processed by the first cation removing assembly is conveyed to a second cation removing assembly and then to an anion removing assembly so that deionized water is produced and is then returned to a rinse bath. The other cations in the rinse water are captured by the second cation assembly. The first cation assembly is regenerated using a regeneration solution compatible with the plating bath.

The resin material is held between permeable separator plates which also define inlet and outlet plenums accessible through openings in the sidewall near opposite ends of each cannister. Standard screw-type pipe fittings connect the inlet and outlet of successive cannisters to facilitate rapid disassembly of a multi-cannister ion exchange system and removal/replacement of cannisters whose resin requires regeneration.

Ionic impurities are removed by reverse osmosis through a cellulose acetate membrane which feeds the flux water to a mixed resin bed for deionization. The product water is filtered through a cartridge of granular activated carbon prior to being stored in a product water reservoir. An attachment is connectable with the tap water faucet to provide tap water to the unit at main water supply pressure and to dispose of waste brine water and excess product water.     Abstract: A water-deionizing system comprising a reservoir for receiving a quantity of water to be deionized, a first ion-exchanger unit capable of removing anions from said water, and a second ion-exchanger unit capable of removing cations from said water. The first and second ion-exchanger units are connected to said reservoir to form separate flow paths or circuits for circulating water from the reservoir through the units separately in parallel. The system permits efficient production of a relatively large amount of water in a batchwise operation and also facilitates the regeneration of saturated ion-exchangers.

The raw feed water flows first through an upper cation resin bed, then through an intermediate anion resin bed, and then through a lower bed of mixed cation and anion resins, and preferably flows downwardly through the beds. After the resin beds become saturated with metal ions from the feed water, mainly by calcium and magnesium ions, the beds are regenerated by first backwashing with water, then chemically treating with acid and caustic solution, followed by bed rinsing, air mixing and backflushing with water prior to further use for demineralizing the feed water.

    Abstract: A water filtration system is provided by an upflow filter vessel containing a buoyant filter media in series with a downstream downflow filter vessel containing a nonbuoyant filter media. The buoyant media filter vessel and nonbuoyant media filter vessel comprise two compartments of a common tank, separated by a central wall. Water from the upflow filter vessel passes over the top of this wall, or through one or more openings in this wall, to the downflow filter vessel. A common waste trough extends from one end of the tank to the other. Weir plates are fastened to the upper edges of this trough such that the trough steps upwardly in elevation at the central wall. Waste materials from the upflow filter vessel pass over the lower of these weir plates and into the waste trough during cleaning of the buoyant media filter. In contrast, waste materials from the nonbuoyant media filter flow over the upper weir plates and into the trough during cleaning of this latter filter.

The balls, which do not fill out the entire volume between the perforated walls (although they fill out the cross-sectional area of the filter body), rub against each other in the flowing liquid, so that the filter body is self-cleaning.

    Abstract: A filtration process and apparatus for the removal of solids from liquids is provided having a filter bed vertically disposed in a chamber which has a solids-containing liquid passed horizontally therethrough. The filter bed is regenerated after becoming loaded with solids. During filtering the liquid is divided into at least two partial streams, and each partial stream is conducted through a respective filter bed arranged in a chamber, which is comprised of reticulated particles of polyurethane. After the particles have been completely loaded with the solids, the liquid feed to and the liquid discharge from the respective chamber are interrupted. The solids adhereing to the particles are then transferred by agitation and/or gas treatment into a liquid volume remaining in the chamber, and the liquid volume is discharged together with the solids. The process is especially adaptable to be utilized in wastewater treatment, or for the removal of solids from scrubbing media.
