Each of the filter elements is formed of diffusion bonded multiple layers of wire mesh and each of the filter elements is corrugated to provide an external surface having an area at least three times the area of the cylindrical external surface of the tubular wedge wire screen that is encompassed by each filter element. The corrugated filter elements are secured on the wedge wire screen and welded in abutted end-to-end position.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1994Date of Patent: May 2, 1995Assignee: Purolator Products N.A., Inc.Inventor: James B. Patent number: 5380436Abstract: A solid-liquid separator comprising a number of stationary rings arranged with spaces left therebetween, a number of floating rings each disposed movably in the spaces between the stationary rings and a screw conveyor provided in the inner space of the stationary and floating rings. The screw conveyor is driven in rotation to convey sludge water introduced into the space, and while being conveyed, only a water portion thereof is discharged to the exterior through the minute gaps between the floating and stationary rings. The motion of the floating ring prevents clogging of the solid portion in the minute gaps.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1993Date of Patent: January 10, 1995Assignee: Amukon KabushikikaishaInventor: Masayoshi Sasaki

Patent number: 5304312Abstract: A sealed filter unit is provided having end caps which engage fluid connectors which are in turn connectable to external piping conveying fluid through the filter and which provide a preliminary seal upon mounting the filter unit in the filter holder. The filter unit assures that all fluid passing through the unit is filtered in a single pass without wetting the filter holder into which the filter unit is mounted via the fluid connectors. The filter holder allows rapid and reliable insertion and removal of the filter unit to and from the filter holder. The filter holder will accept various sizes of filter units as required by the process. In the preferred embodiment, the fluid connectors are a part of the filter holder. In the absence of fluid pressure, the filter unit can be manually removed from the filter holder fluid connectors for replacement of the filter unit.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1992Date of Patent: April 19, 1994Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: Donald M. Patent number: 5171436Abstract: An apparatus conveys screenings collected on a bar screen partially immersed in a sewage flow and inclined in the flow direction, and in certain cases on an adjoining apron screen. A rake device conducts the screenings to a discharge position at the upper edge of the bar screen or the apron screen. The screenings are conveyed simultaneously along at least two conveying paths and thus given screenings are transferred along mutually adjoining conveying paths. The rake device includes at least two rake members spaced at intervals in the conveying direction and connected together by a common drive that causes simultaneous translatory movements in the same direction of both rake members.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1989Date of Patent: December 15, 1992Inventor: Bertram Botsch

Patent number: 5098561Abstract: A machine for intercepting solid constitutents in a liquid stream, such as sewage, has a frame which carries a downwardly sloping screen positionable in and across the stream so that the liquid flows through but the outer side of the upwardly and forwardly sloping screen intercepts solid constituents. The screen has a stationary grate with parallel grate bars extending from the lower to the upper end of the screen, and a mobile grate with parallel grate bars which alternate with the grate bars of the stationary grate. The mobile grate is repeatedly movable forwardly of the stationary grate to lift off the stationary grate bars those solid constitutents which were intercepted by the two sets of grate bars, and the mobile grate is then moved upwardly to raise the lifted solid constituents along the outer side of the stationary grate prior to redepositing the lifted constituents on the stationary grate.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1991Date of Patent: March 24, 1992Assignees: Berthold Schreiber, Erhard SchreiberInventor: Wolfgang Grabbe

Patent number: 4941971Abstract: A horizontally mounted cylindrical container is adapted to mount through demountable end plates a cartridge filter in the container through demountable end plates for rotation around a lower axis than the center axis of the container. The combination of container and filter is connected in an aqueous system through a top inlet pipe and hand controlled valve and a lower front end plate outlet, and to a source of pressure cleaning media through an upper quadrant valve controlled turnable tube slidably mounted through a rear plate inlet and supported in the container by a combination track and baffle member fixed to the container top. A nozzle fixed to the free end of the pressure media tube jets cleaning media against the filter to rotate it alternately in both directions of rotation and for its full length. A second inlet pipe and valve is fixed to the top inlet pipe a chemical cleaning soak in baffled minimum amounts because of the baffling and filter mounting below the center of the container.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 1985Date of Patent: July 17, 1990Inventor: Alva Z. Patent number: 4915835Abstract: There is provided a filter element for filtering fluids. The element consists of a body member having at least two openings provided, respectively, access and egress for the fluid and a plurality of fibers of a substantially uniform orientation over at least a portion of their active lengths along which portion at least each of the fibers is disposed in close proximity to its adjacent fibers. The invention also provides a flushable filter device incorporating the above described element.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1986Date of Patent: April 10, 1990Assignee: Filtration Water Filters for Agri. and Indt. Patent number: 4897206Abstract: The coalescing plate is designed to separate immiscible components of differing densities mixed in a fluid. The plate includes bidirectional corrugations forming crests and valleys. Bleed holes are provided in the crests and valleys to allow the immiscible components to pass through. Plural plates are stacked and separated by spacers. The spacers are configured to provide multiple spacings between adjacent plates. The immiscible components less dense than the host fluid migrate upwardly and pass through the bleed holes in the crests. Solids and other components denser than the host fluid move downwardly and pass through the bleed holes in the valleys. The plates are readily cleaned in situ by passing a nozzle through the bleed holes nad introducing a pressurized fluid or gas to flush out the space between the plates.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1988Date of Patent: January 30, 1990Assignee: Facet Quantek, Inc.Inventor: Joseph L. Patent number: 4804481Abstract: In the filter according to the invention (precoated filter), gap-type filter elements (11) designed in the manner of filter cartridges and consisting of a profile wire wound into a helical spring are used. In order to detach the adhering filter cake, the gap-type filter element (11) is stretched in its axial direction, with the filter gaps being opened at the same time, this appropriately being carried out be means of a stretching drive which at the same time can be designed as a vibratory drive. The gap-type filter elements are at the same time made to vibrate, and this can be obtained by means of periodic stretching and shortening or by making the stretched gap-type filter elements vibrate. The vibratory movement is appropriately executed at a frequency matching the natural frequency of the gap-type filter elements.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1987Date of Patent: February 14, 1989Assignee: Boll & Kirch Filterbau GmbHInventor: Rudiger Lennartz

Patent number: 4664814Abstract: A filter assembly is formed by arranging a large number of substantially annular, thin filter elements disposed around a radially pervious and hollow core so that a major portion of the core is surrounded by the filter elements. Slots between the filter elements allow passage of the liquid to be filtered. The filter assembly is enclosed in a closed vessel with the interior of the core being in communication with an outlet line. An initial axial pressure is established on the filter elements by a spring which acts on an end support engaging the end one of the filter elements. The axial pressure on the filter elements is controlled by controlling pressure in the closed vessel and thus the size of the slots is controlled to establish the desired filtering degree of the filter assembly.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1985Date of Patent: May 12, 1987Inventors: Sune Backman, Hakan Hakanson
