  • Publication number: 20120152860
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for removing fluids, particularly entrained and/or adherent fluids, from drill cuttings created during the well drilling process. An apron assembly collects drill cuttings and deposits such cuttings on a central rotor having multiple distinct chambers. A first chamber is loaded with drill cuttings. The central rotor thereafter cycles to a second position wherein a pressure seal is formed around the loaded first chamber. An air knife or similar device is used to blast compressed gas at the cuttings in the sealed chamber and force the cuttings against a screen. Solid components of the cuttings remain in the sealed chamber, while liquid components pass through the screen and are collected using an auger assembly. Following such separation, the rotor is cycled again, allowing dried cuttings to empty from the first chamber. The process is repeated for each chamber of the rotor.

  • Patent number: 4981587
Abstract: A sieve bend has been described incorporating a headbox 40, throat mechanism 46, nip flap 90 and sieve surface area 52 supported by frame 96 which may have portions thereof rotated or positioned behind headbox 40 temporarily until its use is desired. The invention overcomes the problem of requiring frequent end for end reversal of the sieve surface area and of debris jamming the throat mechanism. Further, the invention permits in process variation of the sieve surface area 52 in response to downstream conditions.

  • Patent number: 4704206
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for feeding a rotary filter with suspension by continuous flow to separate the solid and liquid phases of the suspension. The rotary filter apparatus includes at least one disc having filtering surfaces formed of a plurality of sectors fixed on a hollow horizontal driveshaft passing through the axis of the disc. The sectors are arranged to dip sequentially into a trough containing the suspension. The driveshaft serves for discharge of the liquid phase, and includes distributor means providing filtration, drainage and blowing stages acting sequentially on the sectors during the rotation of the discs.

  • Patent number: 4686035
Abstract: A separator with a magnetic drum which rotates through a well-defined liquid flow path to separate magnetic particles from liquid delivered to the flow path by way of a trough. A weir extends between the trough and the drum to define a gap at the entry end of the flow path. The weir is hinged to swing downwardly and upwardly to automatically increase and decrease the width of the gap when the incoming flow rate increases and decreases, respectively, the weir thus acting to maintain the liquid level in the trough substantially constant at various incoming flow rates. The trough is shaped to spread the incoming liquid across the length of the drum in a streamlined manner. The housing of the separator is of a fabricated construction enabling easy removal and replacement of an arcuate apron which coacts with the drum and the housing to define the flow path.

  • Patent number: 4642189
Abstract: A rotary pulp screening device of the vertical type is disclosed having a high screening efficiency and high capacity. The screen provides a streamline flow of pulpstock, and aims to supply a fairly constant flow of pulp through the screen from top to bottom, thus utilizing the full height of the screen. The screening device includes a cylindrical housing with a vertical cylindrical screen therein, a rotary impeller mounted for rotation within the screen, the impeller having a body whose top is substantially level with the disc ring and bottom is adjacent the lower end of the cylindrical screen, the body having a shape with circular axial cross section from the top to the bottom, whose diameter increases from the top to the bottom thus leaving a larger annular space at the top, and impeller blades radiating from at least a portion of the body of the impeller and extending to within a short distance from the screen for the height of the screen.

  • Patent number: 4610789
Abstract: A filter cartridge is structured of a filtration mat assembly wrapped or rolled about a central distribution tube. The filtration mat includes a plurality of hollow porous fiber strands carried by a fluid permeable sheet. Once the mat has been wrapped about the porous central distribution tube, both ends of the mat and distribution tube are firmly embedded in end caps. The central distribution tube is comprised of two tube segments which are telescopingly connected. Shrinkage and contraction or swelling and elongation of the mat's fibers cause the end caps to move toward or away from each other. This movement of the end caps is able to occur due to the ability of the telescoping central distribution tube to decrease or increase in length.
