  • Patent number: 7105090
Abstract: A filter has three filter elements, e.g., screens, for trapping particulate material while allowing passage of a fluid. The second sides of each of the first and second screens are connected to an intermediate passage, and the second side of the third screen, and the intermediate passage, are connected to a filter outlet port. The filter has two alternately selectable configurations. In a first configuration, the first side of the first screen is connected to a filter inlet port, and the first side of the second screen is connected to the first side of the third screen. In the second configuration the first side of the second screen is connected to the inlet port, and the first side of the first screen is connected to the first side of the third screen. The first and second screens alternately filter particulates which are subsequently flushed and then trapped by the third screen for periodic removal.

  • Patent number: 5342520
Abstract: A filter having a filter element is provided for a rockdrill. The filter can be operated in three modes, namely, filtering or drilling, rinsing and back-flushing. As the filter element becomes clogged a handle on the filter can be turned to a back-flushing mode position whereby the flow of fluid through the filter element is reversed and the flow of fluid thereby expels dirt and debris accumulated in and on the filter element to the atmosphere through the a outlet port. When the handle is turned back to a filtering mode position ports in a support shaft in the filter pass through the rinsing mode which washes dirt that may have accumulated on the filter element during the back-flushing mode and expels it to the atmosphere through the vent outlet port. When the handle is positioned in the filtering mode position the filter element is clean.

  • Patent number: 4648971
Abstract: A filter consisting of a housing, a rigid, porous filtering element, means for forming a primary filter path along the filtering element, and a non-rigid expanding element, wherein when a solution to be filtered flows through the primary flow path, filtrate passes through the rigid filtering element and particulate matter is retained on or in the filtering element. When the filter surface becomes clogged, the incoming solution is bypassed, reduced, or discontinued and the non-rigid expanding element expanded to first form discrete compartments of filtrate between the expanding element and the filtering element and secondly to force the discrete volumes of filtrate back through the filtering element into the flow path for removal. • Patent number: 4639315
Abstract: Apparatus for mechanical purification of waste water has a stationary hollow shaft which is installed in a vessel for waste water and carries a variable number of hollow drum-shaped frames with pairs of filters adjacent to the openings in their sidewalls. Waste water is drawn into the interior of the frames by a pump which is connected to one end of the shaft whereby the impurities deposit at the outer sides of the filters. Such impurities are removed from time to time by suction heads which are adjacent to the outer sides of the filters and are connected to a single sludge pump by discrete conduits, one for each frame. The inner sides of the respective filters are then sprayed by clean water which promotes segregation of impurities and their entry into the suction heads. Indexible valving elements are provided to connect conduits for admission of clean water into selected frames with a single source of clean water and to connect selected conduits for removal of impurities with the sludge pump.

  • Patent number: 4592848
Abstract: A flow-through filter including a two-stage valve head assembly and a filtering body which is designed to provide a helical flow path for the solution over a cylindrical porous filter which captures the particulate matter contained by the solution being filtered. An extended filtering capacity is achieved due to the ability of the filter to remove and eject separated solids retained by the porous filter. An expander tube is positioned within the filter and, when connected to a pressure source, the expander tube forces solids from the pores and into the primary volume of the filter where a flushing medium is circulated. The filter clearing is made possible by an accurately controlled and metered volume of uniformly distributed reverse flow which effectively lifts the solid material out of the pores.
