Abstract: A filter cartridge assembly having a unitary cartridge body with a protuberance extending therefrom. The protuberance is designed to sealably fit into a fixed connection disposed between the inlet and outlet portions of the fluid stream. The protuberance is provided with a first sealing member in the form of a feathered edge seal adapted to seal the cartridge inlet and outlet fluid streams respectively. Another seal spaced beneath the feathered seal in the form of an "O" ring serves as a frictional seal between the top of the cartridge body and the fixed connection. An annular fluid stream passage formed between the interior wall surface of the fixed connection and the protuberance, allows the cartridge body to be urged into the connection without regard to orientation of inlet or outlet fluid stream passages.

Abstract: A modular filter assembly for cleaning and polishing of potable waters including a fabric turbidity removal module and an adsorptive taste and odor removal module. The modules are connected in series so as to have turbidity removal prior to taste and odor removal to extend the operating life of the taste and odor removal module. The turbidity removal module includes a porous, fabric material assembly which is of a rolled or wrapped construction which provides a large filtration area to prevent its clogging prior to the utilization of the adsorptive capabilities of the taste and odor removal module. The turbidity removal module includes a flow grid assembly having inner and outer flow grid to maximize the distribution of the fluid being filtered over the filtration area of the module and to assure lateral flow of the filtered fluid through the module.

Abstract: A low cost water filter apparatus including a valve rotor rotatable within a valve housing which rotor may be rotated within the valve housing when necessary for the purpose of engaging a bypass safety feature, or for the purpose of shutting off the flow of water through the filter unit prior to changing the filter element.
