  • Patent number: 7073670
Abstract: A filter element for hydrocarbon emissions in, e.g., marine diesel engine applications, comprises a wound mat received within a filter bag. An annular end cap is bonded to one end of the wound mat, and is sealed around its periphery to a bag ring at the open end of the bag. The bag ring is then received and retained in a seat ring in the housing. The exhaust gas stream from the engine is directed through an opening in the end cap and through the wound mat and bag for removal of hydrocarbons and contaminants.

  • Patent number: 7066337
Abstract: A reusable filter port assembly is installable on the wall of a sterilizable cultivation bag, such as is used in the cultivation of mushrooms. A grommet and locking collar are removably installed in the wall of the cultivation bag or pouch to provide gas flow communication between the interior of the bag and the ambient environment after the bag is sealed. A removable filter cap holds a filter member over the opening of the filter port assembly to prevent undesired particles from passing through the port of the assembly. In use, the grommet is placed against the interior surface of a bag or pouch, such as a plastic cultivation bag. The collar is screwed down over the grommet from the exterior surface of the bag to form a grommet-collar combination fixed in place to the wall of the bag. Once installed, a patch of bag material of the bag wall is still covering the grommet opening of the neck tube.

  • Patent number: 6989092
Abstract: In a first embodiment, a top-emptying bailer has a cylindrical filter positioned within a hollow interior of the bailer. A bottom, leading end of the filter is capped by an imperforate bottom fitting having an insert that fits into the hollow interior of the filter. The top, trailing end of the filter receives a cylindrical insert that together with the imperforate bottom fitting insert helps hold the filter open as liquid fluid flows into it. The filter is preferably formed of polypropylene. The bailer is inverted so that liquid fluid in the hollow interior of the bailer is constrained to flow through the filter before it exits the trailing end of the bailer. In a second embodiment, the filter is positioned at the leading end of the bailer and the bailer is emptied from the bottom.

Abstract: A filter assembly including a filter vessel having an inlet and an outlet and defining a filter chamber therebetween. A basket assembly is removably supported within the filter chamber. The basket assembly has a diameter less than the diameter of the filter chamber so as to define an annular flow passage about the basket assembly. The basket assembly includes an outer permeable member and an inner permeable member having a diameter which is less than the diameter of the outer permeable member such that the inner permeable member is received within the outer permeable member so as to define an annular space therebetween and an inner flow path. The inner permeable member includes a permeable rigid closed end. The basket assembly is capable of supporting a bag type filter having at least one closed end such that it may be supported over both the inner and outer permeable members bounding the annular space therebetween.

  • Patent number: 6357601
Abstract: An ultrafiltration device has a ported reservoir body, and a filter membrane sealed to the body along a closed contour surrounding the port(s) to provide a large area filtered outflow path. A frusto-conical end provides hydrostatic deadstopping with little or no wicking, greatly enhancing recovery time and efficiency. Methods of using the device rapidly isolate a predetermined amount of a desired retentate in the distal portion of the tube, and are also useful for quantitative transfer of smaller molecules and for multi-step processing of sample arrays Linear array strips of such chambers may be formed by bonding together mating halves with filter areas over the chamber ports. The vessel may include a rib to guide and orient filter during assembly, and/or a ledge or recess to engage and align the filter, assuring that the filter is precisely positioned and does not wander during manufacture and bonding.

  • Patent number: 6338797
Abstract: A two-piece filtering device for wastewater filtering systems is disclosed wherein the two-piece system is inserted into a tubular casing. The two-piece filtering system is comprised of an outer sleeve filter and an inner primary filter, the primary filter extending downwardly through an opening in the bottom portion of the sleeve filter and also having an opening formed in its end. After insertion into the tubular casing, the two-piece filtering system of the present invention forces effluent or other fluid to be treated upward through the interior of the primary filter, through slots formed in and subsequently through the sidewall of the sleeve filter. Thus, only treated effluent flows outward through the tubular casing outlet opening. The slots may be formed in both the sidewall of the primary filter and the sleeve filter. A seal may be provided between sidewall lower portion of the primary filter and may extend to the internal sidewall of the tubular casing to prevent untreated effluent therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20010054584
Abstract: An ultrafiltration device has a filter membrane sealed inside a reservoir body, such as a tube. The tube has one or more ports and a closed portion distal to the port(s), and the filter membrane is sealed to the body along a closed contour widely surrounding the port(s) to provide a large area filtered outflow path. The method is effective to rapidly isolate a predetermined amount of a desired retentate in the distal portion of the tube. The method and device are also useful for quantitative transfer of smaller molecules and for multi-step processing of sample arrays. A frusto-conical peripheral filter provides high ratio of effective filter area, and may be configured for hydrostatic deadstopping and little or no wicking, greatly enhancing recovery time and efficiency. Linear array strips of such chambers may be formed by bonding together mating halves with filter areas over the chamber ports.

Abstract: A bone filter trap for harvesting autogenous bone and cell marrow and blood elements collected by an aspirator during medical and dental bone surgical procedures. The bone trap is disposed between the aspirator suction system and the aspirator tip. The bone filter or trap includes housing through which an air flow induced by the suction system is allowed to pass via inlet and outlet openings in the housing. A cylindrically-shaped mesh is longitudinally disposed therein. The cylindrically shaped mesh is open at its top end (facing the inlet opening) and is fitted with a removable solid base at the distal outlet end, such that the induced air flow carrying liquids, solids and gases from the patient surgical site is forced to pass through the mesh. The mesh is sized such that only autogenous bone and cell marrow and blood elements are trapped in the mesh. Upon completion of the medical procedure, the cylindrically-shaped mesh is removed from the inlet and outlet housings.
