Patent number: 6610203Abstract: A liquid filter mainly intended for oil or fuel in internal combustion engines, in which the filter comprises a replaceable filter cartridge (17). The filter cartridge is housed in a housing having an essentially central symmetry comprising a housing base and a cover which is designed to be screwed on. In order to avoid leakage residual liquid when the filter housing is opened, especially if the liquid filter is mounted horizontally, a drain screw (22) is actuated before the housing is opened, and in order to achieve the highest possible degree of drainage, the drain screw is moved to the lowest possible position by rotating a threaded member (11) by at most 360°. Publication number: 20030015465Abstract: A disposable filter cartridge, in which the entire filter cartridge is disposable. The filter cartridge includes a tubular filter element substantially permanently retained to a lid such that the filter element cannot be removed from the lid without extreme force. The filter element includes a ring of filter media having ends potted in cup shaped end caps. The lid includes a central hub that is inserted through the opening in on of the end caps and ultrasonically deformed or flared radially outward to provide a lip that engages the top end cap for axial retention. The filter element is free floating and can be moved or tilted a small degree axially and can also be freely rotated relative to the lid.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 17, 2001Publication date: January 23, 2003Applicant: Baldwin Filters, Inc.Inventors: Walter J. Patent number: 6506302Abstract: A fuel filter cartridge assembly employs a two piece housing to house a replaceable filter unit. The filter cartridge assembly incorporates a key system to ensure compatibility of a replacement filter unit for a given cartridge assembly. Keys formed on the filter unit cooperate with keyways formed in the housing to ensure that only filter units having key structures may be used. Each key may have a different angular position, angular dimension and radial projection. By varying the dimensions of the keys and/or the positions and/or the number of keys, a composite compatibility matrix comprising an infinite number of configuration sets are available to differentiate between filter units having differing flow capacities, filter media, disposal options or other characteristics.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2001Date of Patent: January 14, 2003Assignee: Stanadyne CorporationInventor: Leon P. Patent number: 6506303Abstract: Liquid filter arrangement with interchangeable filter element and including a pot-like filter housing in which the filter element is disassemblably inserted between a liquid inlet to the chamber and an outlet situated below, in the lower section of the filter housing, for filtered liquid from the chamber. In the liquid chamber is arranged a central tube about which is arranged the filter element which is provided at the bottom with an annular end piece sealingly surrounding the central tube, and is provided upwards with an end disc by which the filter element is fastened to a lid fastened sealingly in the upper section of the filter housing. When the filter element is in its fitted position, the end piece blocks the inlet to a draining duct in the central tube, which duct leads to a draining outlet from the chamber.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2000Date of Patent: January 14, 2003Assignee: Scania CV AB (publ)Inventors: Krister Gustafsson, Fredrik Öhrnell

Patent number: 6471070Abstract: A fuel filter cartridge assembly employs a two piece housing to house a disposable, incineratable filter unit. The filter unit is constructed to cooperate with the sealing mechanism of the housing to seal the assembled cartridge against a fuel inlet/outlet conduit. Tabs formed on the filter unit end cap cooperate with slots formed in the housing to ensure that only compatible filter units are used.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2001Date of Patent: October 29, 2002Assignee: Stanadyne CorporationInventor: Leon P. Publication number: 20020121473Abstract: A sump filter assembly wherein a filter element that may or may not be removably disposed in a filter housing is sealingly engaged with the filter housing by way of a sealing member to separate the filter housing cavity between dirty and clean spaces. The filter element is provided with filtration material with a portion thereof embedded in the filter element, the filter element is further provided with a sealing member retaining shoulder to ensure proper placement of the sealing member in the assembly, with the sealing member being an O-ring or gasket member, among other things.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 1, 2002Publication date: September 5, 2002Inventors: Andrew J. Patent number: RE38917Abstract: In a fluid filter with a housing and a filter element replaceably located in said housing, and with a filter by pads valve having a valve body held in the housing that is movable against the action of a spring from the closed position in which it cooperates with a sealing surface, into an open position in which it permits a fluid flow to bypass the filter element. The invention proposes that the sealing surface associated with the valve body be formed by the replaceable filter element.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2000Date of Patent: December 13, 2005Assignee: Firma Ing.
