  • Patent number: 7992722
Abstract: A fluid filter housing for receipt of a fluid filter element and for threaded attachment to a mounting base includes a unitary, molded plastic shell, an annular, threaded nutplate, and a plastic weld ring. The plastic shell defines a hollow interior for receipt of the fluid filter element. The plastic shell also defines one side of an O-ring groove. The threaded nutplate includes a groove-side surface that defines a second side of the O-ring groove. The weld ring is securely joined to the threaded nutplate by co-molding and is securely joined to the shell by a spin weld process. The weld ring provides a third surface for the O-ring groove. As such, three separate components are used to create an inwardly opening three-sided annular groove for receipt of an annular seal for sealing an interface between the fluid filter housing and the mounting base.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for filtering liquid using a filter platform that is not rigidly affixed to a container containing the liquid to be filtered. The platform may be buoyant so that as liquid flows from one side of the platform, through a filter, and then to the other side of the platform, the platform may move, thus reducing the volume of a container or portion of a container that holds the unfiltered liquid. Alternatively, the platform may be heavier than the liquid to be filtered, may be either set in place on a support structure or else set on top of unfiltered liquid and allowed to sink downward as liquid is filtered. The system may further comprise a flexible membrane that allows two sections of liquid to be separated, even while the platform is moveable.

The filter basket (20) has expanded metal side and bottom walls which are adapted to pass liquid and catch particulate material larger in size than the wall openings. A geo-textile liner (42) is optionally positioned inside of the filter basket (20). The liner (42) is supported on a lower rim flange (26). Posts (40) on the rim flange (26) extend upwardly through openings (66) in marginal portions of the liner (42). A smaller second filter basket (72) is optionally supported inside the larger first filter basket (20). An absorbent pillow (90) may be positioned between the bottoms of the two filter baskets (20, 72) to catch and absorb oils and greases that are in the liquid that enters the catch basin (10).

  • Patent number: 7767087

  • Patent number: 7749435
Abstract: An oxygenator which helps avoid bubbles in the blood from being discharged through the blood outlet port of the oxygenator includes a housing, a hollow fiber membrane bundle in the housing and formed by a multiplicity of hollow fiber membranes serving for gas exchange, gas-inlet and gas-outlet ports communicating with gas passages of the hollow fiber membranes, and a blood-inlet and blood-outlet ports. A filter member is provided on a side closer to the blood outlet port of the hollow fiber membrane bundle and serves to catch bubbles in blood. The blood outlet port projects from the housing and a passage enlargement is provided in a vicinity of the end of the blood outlet port closer to the housing and having an increased passage cross-sectional area. The blood passed the filter member is allowed to reach the blood outlet port by being decelerated in the passage enlargement.

  • Patent number: 7731036
Abstract: A reversible vacuum filter cartridge for connection to a pair of tubes or other entities to filter a liquid medium placed in one of the tubes or other entities is described. The filter cartridge is comprised of a male coupling and a female coupling. The couplings are interconnected to one another by simply pushing a mating projection of the male coupling into a mating cavity of the female coupling. A connecting port is provided in the male and female coupling and has a conduit communicating with tube connecting ends of each of the couplings which communicate with an open end of a tube connected to each of the couplings. The connecting port is identical in each of the couplings and serves either as vacuum port or an air intake port. A filter disk is retained captive between perforated outer walls of each of the couplings when interconnected together in fluid-tight relationship.

Abstract: Disclosed is a sediment control apparatus capable of trapping sediments carried by a water stream. The apparatus comprises a filter member, a cover member, and a fastening mechanism. The filter member comprises an enclosure member composed of a permeable material capable of allowing water to pass therethrough, and a filtering material stored within the enclosure member for trapping sediments carried by the water stream. The cover member is coupled to the enclosure member such that an intermediate portion of the cover member is received on a portion of the enclosure member, and side portions of the cover member overhang from the enclosure member. The fastening mechanism is adapted to secure the side portions of the cover member to a surface for securing the filter member to the surface. The apparatus may further include at least one skirt portion configured on at least one peripheral edge of the cover member.

Abstract: A filter within a filter cartridge design is described that includes a sealing structure on an endplate of an outer filter element. Generally, the sealing structure includes an annular flange on the endplate that can directly seal against an interior surface of a housing when the filter cartridge is assembled for use. During filtration, the annular flange prevents a working fluid from bypassing the outer filter element. The sealing flange can seal with the housing in a press fit engagement.

Abstract: A self dislodging filter element, primarily for automotive applications, has a filter screen attached to an annular magnet. The filter element is installed in a port or conduit through which fluid flows and is held in place with magnetic attraction. If the filter screen becomes too clogged, pressure from the fluid impinging on the clogged screen overcomes the magnetic attraction and the filter slides down the conduit to be deposited in a repository and out of the fluid flow path.
