Abstract: A water dispenser is provided that includes an upper chamber for receiving liquid, a triptych-layer filtering assembly operably coupled to the upper chamber, a lower chamber operably coupled to the triptych-layer filtering assembly for dispensing filtered liquid, and a float assembly system. In one embodiment, the float assembly is operably coupled to the upper and lower chambers. The float assembly system may include a float body, a float valve and a float seal.

Abstract: A tissue holder assembly for receiving and imaging severed tissue samples from a biopsy device includes a base and a cover removably attached to the base to define an interior, the base having one or more vacuum lumens in communication with the interior, the assembly further including a tissue tray removably and rotatably mounted in the interior, wherein a bottom of the tissue tray comprises a filter material that allows fluid to pass through. The cover has a tissue sample entry port formed therein and configured direct severed tissue samples and fluid aspirated therethrough into a respective tissue storage compartment of the tissue tray positioned under the tissue sample entry port, wherein the base includes a raised surface underlying at least a portion of the tissue tray circumferentially spaced apart from the tissue sample entry port when the cover is attached to the base.

Abstract: In at least one illustrative embodiment, an electromagnetic filter may include a pipe and a magnetic field generator such as an array of permanent magnets. The magnetic field generator generates a magnetic field through a filter section of the pipe. Multiple filter elements are positioned within the filter section of the pipe. The filter elements include a magnetic material and a biorecognition element to bind with a microorganism. The biorecognition element may be a bacteriophage that is genetically engineered to bind with the microorganism. The magnetic field forces the filter elements to positions within the filter section of the pipe. A fluid media may be flowed from an inlet of the pipe to an outlet of the pipe, through the filter section. The fluid media may be a liquid food such as fruit juice. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: An apparatus used to ferment a liquid during kombucha manufacture includes a bonnet. The bonnet is configured to cover an opening of a container. The container defines a volume to hold the liquid. The container has a lip that defines the opening. The bonnet further includes a filter. The filter is permeable to a gas and has a pore size. The bonnet includes an elastic member. The elastic member is coupled to the filter. The elastic member is elastically engageable with the lip such that when the bonnet is attached to the container the bonnet covers the opening and the elastic member is removably sealable to the lip. When the bonnet is engaged with the lip, a gas can pass through the filter and particles larger than the pore size are kept out of the liquid by the filter during fermentation of the liquid, thereby preventing contamination of the liquid.

Abstract: An expandable engine fluid catcher that is configured to attach to an engine fluid filter, such as an oil filter, and catch engine fluid as the fluid filter is removed from the engine. An engine may be part of a vehicle and the engine fluid filter may be an oil filter. An expandable engine fluid catcher has a retainer portion having a retainer band that is secured around the engine fluid filter. Most engine fluid filters are cylindrical in shape and therefore a band, and in particular an elastic band, may be used to attach the expandable engine fluid catcher to the fluid filter. A pleated portion of the expandable engine fluid catcher has a plurality of pleats that extend from the retainer band upward to an expandable end that can be flared out, or expanded, to provide a larger diameter for catching engine fluid therein.

Abstract: A method for producing a beverage using a portion pack including a container made of filter material for containing an extraction material, and a supporting body which encloses the container. The method comprises the steps of: placing the closed portion pack into a filter vessel; opening the container of the portion pack on an upper side and increasing the internal volume of the container by at least 50% compared to the internal volume in the closed container; and applying water to the extraction material for beverage preparation. The portion pack comprises at least one folding edge on the supporting body about which a flap can be pivoted in order to increase the internal volume of the portion pack when opening.

Abstract: A combined lid and strainer device for a paint container features an outer mounting rim configured for mated fitting onto a rim of the paint container. Within a central circular area surrounded by the rim, there is a perforated a straining area through which paint is pourable. A movable cover is selectively movable between a closed position overlying the perforated straining area, and open positions withdrawn therefrom to allow strained pouring of the paint therethrough. Raised features on the cover are used to secure the cover closed when the lidded container is placed in a paint shaker. A sealing membrane is used, at least initially, seal the perforated area in air-tight fashion to maintain paint freshness. Securement features are usable to secure the flap in both closed and open positions.

Abstract: A self-supporting gutter guard device is described having a bridge member composed of a decking material having a plurality of orifices, and having a roof side and an opposing gutter lip side, at least one groove disposed in the decking material altering a profile of the deck material to outline a 3-dimensional geometry that spans the bridge member from a proximal end of the bridge member's roof side to a proximal end of the bridge member's gutter lip side, a roof attachment member configured to attach to the roof side of the bridge member, and a gutter attachment member configured to attach to the gutter lip side of the bridge member, wherein the 3-dimensional geometry of the at least one groove enables the device to be self-supporting.

Abstract: A debris shield system for use with gutters and other water runoff collection systems is disclosed. The debris shield system provides universal fit to various gutter systems and enables easier assembly on-site and simplifies manufacturing. The debris shield system includes various water adhesion and water capture features, which function to slow the flow of water, break surface tension of the water, and encourage the water flow into a gutter or other water runoff system.

The container includes conically tapered wall to define a radial space between the container and the filter element to permit fluid flow around the filter element and through the container to an outlet tube fitting. A cap covers the mouth of the container with a threaded interface defined between the cap and the container. Abstract: A modular platform for configuring gutter guard systems is disclosed and claimed herein. The modular platform includes a number of interchangeable components that can be assembled to form a gutter guard system for use with specific rain gutters based on a rain gutter's style, size, color, and attachment mechanism used to secure the rain gutter to a structure and/or roofline. One such interchangeable component is a rear receiver. A rear receiver can be arranged for use with a gutter guard system that includes a main body. In one embodiment, a rear receiver includes an upper member with a first downwardly angled edge; a lower member with a second downwardly angled edge; and a vertical member connecting the upper member to the lower member. The upper member, lower member, and vertical member form a channel to accommodate and secure the rear receiver to a main body in a gutter guard system.

The stormwater drain inserts include a top bib with a central sediment bag extending downward therefrom. Overflow ports are provided in the sediment bag, and an inwardly extending overhang ring directs incoming water flow away from the overflow ports as it enters the sediment bag. The top bib, sediment bag and overhang ring may be made of water permeable oleniphilic fabric that helps trap oils and other hydrocarbons.

The material used to make the gutter cover is a nonwoven fiber material that is a half inch or more in thickness with a width slightly larger than the opening of a gutter. The material allows water to pass easily but will not allow debris and leaves to pass. The material is placed on top of the gutter and deflects leaves and debris over the gutter. As stated above the material's width is slightly larger than the width of the gutter. The installer bends the material and places it on top of the gutter between the fascia board and the lip of the gutter. The material forms a convex surface over the top of the gutter.

Abstract: Provided is an oil-water separation structure, a method of manufacturing the same, an oil-water separator including the oil-water separation structure, and an oil-water separation method using the oil-water separator. The oil-water separation structure includes a porous substrate including a plurality of protrusions forming a nano-pattern on at least one surface; and an inorganic particle disposed at an end of at least some portions of the protrusions. The oil-water separation structure has hydrophilic or superhydrophilic surface properties to selectively filter out water and easily separate and retrieve oil from a mixture of water and oil. A manufacturing process of the oil-water separation structure is environmentally friendly and the oil-water separation structure may be manufactured into a large surface area. The oil-water separator including the oil-water separation structure may be repeatedly used and prevent additional environmental pollution.

The fine mesh material has an upper edge opposite a lower edge with the upper edge configured to fit beneath shingles on a roof adjacent the gutter. The lower edge is configured to be held to a lip at a forward edge of the gutter. The corrugations add strength to the material and collect water at troughs thereof where the collected water more readily forms droplets that fall down into the gutter. A lower strip is preferably provided to hold the lower edge of the mesh to a lip of the gutter. An upper strip is optionally provided which includes a tab which can fit beneath shingles to the roof. A barrier such as a bead of caulk can optionally be coupled to an underside of the corrugated mesh to further encourage water droplets to fall.
