  • Patent number: 5009795
Abstract: Solids contained in waste water are separated and dewatered by a separator comprising a cylindrical strainer basket and a rotary screw disposed in said basket. The screw terminates short of an outlet end of the basket. Waste water introduced into the separator is advanced by the screw until a solids slug is formed between a discharge end of the screw and a solids discharge formed by a cylindrical tube extending forwardly from the basket. About seventy to ninety-five percent of the slug is contained in the basket and is pressed laterally against a wall of the basket to promote the removal of water. The terminal portion of the screw tapers in order to maximize the compaction of the solids slug.

  • Patent number: 4995968
Abstract: A back flushable filter which has a number of separable sections (2) which can be separately accessed and there can be provided a flow pattern so that one of the sections is being back flushed while the other sections are providing normal filtering. A valve configuration (11) providing for such access can be inched around to select each section in term. The filter preferably comprises a stack of separable segments which provide for inclined gaps between adjacent parts of each adjoining stack element with the convergents and gap size selected to encourage compaction of particles within the converging part of each gap but further selected such that on back flushing such compacted particles can be readily disgorged for total cleansing.

  • Patent number: 4929484
Abstract: Filling material for percolating filters for the treatment of liquid and process for producing and assembling the material. Especially in biological sewage treatment, filling material must provide the best possible hold for the biological filter film necessary for the purpose and must have uniform wettability. The disadvantage of known apparatuses meeting these requirements is that they either tend to clog or are difficult to produce. The new filling material will work effectively and reliably, while being simple to produce and assemble. To provide ideal growth surfaces for the biological filter film, the filling material has a plurality of plastic strips (20) which are connected to one another by means of a single holding sheet (21). Furthermore, the strips (20) have a special shape, in particular corrugated edges and/or a structured neutral region. The filling material is especially suitable for biological treatment, particularly the denitrification of sewage or drinking water.

  • Patent number: 4897206
Abstract: The coalescing plate is designed to separate immiscible components of differing densities mixed in a fluid. The plate includes bidirectional corrugations forming crests and valleys. Bleed holes are provided in the crests and valleys to allow the immiscible components to pass through. Plural plates are stacked and separated by spacers. The spacers are configured to provide multiple spacings between adjacent plates. The immiscible components less dense than the host fluid migrate upwardly and pass through the bleed holes in the crests. Solids and other components denser than the host fluid move downwardly and pass through the bleed holes in the valleys. The plates are readily cleaned in situ by passing a nozzle through the bleed holes nad introducing a pressurized fluid or gas to flush out the space between the plates.

Abstract: A filter device is disclosed, comprising two compartments within a housing. The first compartment includes a filter element, of the screen or the disc types, with communication to the filtered fluid outlet of the housing. A controllable valve communicates the first compartment with the inlet of the housing across the second compartment. A drain valve connects the first compartment with outside the housing. For flushing the filter element by reverse-flow, the first valve is closed and the flushing fluid drains through the drain valve. In a further embodiment two or more filter elements and associated compartments and valves are installed, in parallel, within the same housing, so that by stopping the filtering operation of one of the filter elements, it becomes flushed with the product, filtered fluid of the other element.

Abstract: A rotary disk filter element for a beverage filter for biological filtration. The filter element includes a closed base plate that is in the form of a ring-like member and on which is supported a filter fabric, with a support fabric being interposed between the base plate and the filter fabric. The filter fabric is secured to the base plate between an outwardly disposed retaining member and an inwardly disposed collar member. The collar member is provided with a supply opening for a wash fluid, especially a water/air mixture that is flushed through the filter fabric, counter to the direction of filtration, for removing filter residue for the general cleaning of the filter fabric. The filter fabric is secured to the base plate and to the support fabric at a plurality of point locations. This divides the free support or clamping lengths of the filter fabric into a number of relatively short regions that prevent the filter fabric from being overstretched and bulged during flushing.

  • Patent number: 4709863
Abstract: A sandmill outlet screen is formed by a stack of rings which have projections and corresponding recesses stamped into them. The projections provide a gap between rings whereby flow passages between the rings are created. These passages permit the liquid being processed by the sandmill to flow out of the sandmill, but keep a grinding media in the mill. With the projections of one ring nested in the recesses of an adjacent ring, a small gap is provided. With the rings oriented to prevent nesting, a larger gap is provided. With the rings arranged so that the projections of adjacent rings abut each other, a still larger gap is obtained. This variable flow passage capability is further enhanced by varying the height of the projections.
