The water quality detection sensor not only serves as a means for detecting the quality of water in the water storing section, but also as a means for detecting deposition of biomembrane on the detecting section of the water quality detection sensor due to deterioration of the sterilizing performance of the water storing section. As a result, an efficient water quality control system can be realized.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for preventing mud from being hardened in a drain holding tank, in an apparatus that treats drains generated during the marine drilling of petroleum or gas. The apparatus for preventing mud from being hardened in a drain holding tank includes a drain holding tank which gathers a drain being generated in a drilling process; a mud re-compounding pump which circulates a fluid having a pressure that is higher than a predetermined value by spouting the fluid to an area of the drain holding tank where the mud is stored, to prevent mud included in the drain from being hardened in the drain holding tank; a transfer pump which transfers the mud; and a waste mud tank, configured to gather the mud. The apparatus for preventing mud from being hardened in a drain holding tank can circulate the mud at an area of the drain holding tank in which the mud is stored for a period of time, to prevent the mud from being hardened.

Abstract: An apparatus for producing a cleaning solution. Specifically, the apparatus of some embodiments includes a reservoir for containing sodium chlorite. A disposable ion exchange cartridge is placed in fluid communication with the sodium chlorite reservoir via a conduit. The ion exchange cartridge is selectively disconnectable from fluid communication with the sodium chlorite reservoir or from the conduit. Generally, the ion exchange cartridge will be disconnected and replaced when the ion exchange materials in the cartridge are depleted or exhausted. A catalyst can also be placed in fluid communication with the sodium chlorite reservoir. The catalyst can be contained in disposable or selectively disconnectable cartridge that can be easily replaced when depleted. In another aspect of the invention, a color comparison chart is positioned adjacent a conduit to allow one to compare the color of the solution to the chart and determine the concentration of the solution.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for desolvating flowing liquid streams while retaining temporal resolution of dissolved substrates are disclosed. A novel small-scale self-regulating spray dryer preserves temporal resolution while desolvating a liquid chromatography eluent stream and depositing the solute onto an optical surface for infrared spectrographic analysis. The liquid eluent is pumped through a heated nebulizer to create a high-speed jet of solute containing liquid and solvent vapor. This jet is directed circumferentially inside a hot cylindrical cavity. Centrifugal force causes the larger liquid droplets to travel along the outer diameter of the cavity. The cavity surface is heated to cause the droplets to film boil. Film boiling reduces droplet contact with the cavity surface thereby retaining the solute in the droplets. The solute temperature is limited by controlling the pressure into which the solvent evaporates from the droplets.

Abstract: Pretreatment method and apparatus to remove matrix ions from a liquid sample, prior to separation of the sample analytes (e.g. by chromatography), by flowing the liquid sample into a sample compartment and stopping the flow. The sample compartment has a wall comprising an ion exchange membrane having exchangeable ions of the same charge as the matrix ions to be removed. A regenerant liquid stream flows through a regenerant flow compartment on the other side of the membrane from said parked liquid sample. Matrix ions in the parked liquid sample are transported across the membrane into the regenerant flow compartment. Suppression may be performed electrolytically and/or chemically. Abstract: Hot water pipes, in areas with hard water, tend to fill with scale until they no longer pass enough water. De-scaling water pipes with acid is dangerous, expensive and damages the pipes. Ion exchange and reverse osmosis water softeners eliminate scale buildup in pipes, but are expensive. Embodiments of this invention provide a means of keeping an amount of the scale precipitate, created when water is heated, inside a housing by passing the hot water through a removal medium where the scale sticks to the surface. The removal medium can be placed inside the water heater or in a separate housing connected to the water heater; both configurations remove the precipitate from hot water; both save hot water pipes from scale accumulation.
