Patent number: 5492626Abstract: The object of the present invention is reuse of the filtrate of a paint mist-cleaning water mixture as cleaning water without reduction in concentration efficiency. According to the present invention, a waste paint-cleaning water mixture 2 available on trapping a water-based paint mist in cleaning water 1 is concentrated to recover the paint and the aqueous phase is recycled as cleaning water. Patent number: 5236598Abstract: A novel method of treating circulating water containing over-sprayed, water-borne paint, such as in a paint spray booth operation, comprises adjusting the alkalinity of the paint spray booth water to between about 20 and 600 ppm, on a calcium carbonate basis, by adding a designated alkalinity source thereto, adding a cationic potato starch to the water, contacting the over-sprayed, water-borne paint with the alkalinity-adjusted paint spray booth water after addition of the cationic potato starch, adding an effective amount of a polymer floccing agent to the paint spray booth water, and removing resulting sludge from the paint spray booth water.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1992Date of Patent: August 17, 1993Assignee: Calgon CorporationInventors: Wood E. Patent number: 5215668Abstract: Oversprayed paint in a paint spray operation is detackified by dosing the water of the waste water system of such operation with a composition comprising an amphoteric polymer and aluminum salts. The amphoteric polymer contains at least about 10 mole percent of cationic mer units of monoethylenically unsaturated monomer and at least 1 mole percent of anionic mer units. The aluminum salt preferred is aluminum sulfate, or its hydrates, for example alum. The amphoteric polymers preferably contain DMAEM, DMAEM.multidot.H.sub.2 SO.sub.4, DMAEM.multidot.MCQ, or mixtures thereof, with acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, AMPS, or mixtures thereof. The amphoteric polymers may also contain neutral monomers such as (meth)acrylamide.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1991Date of Patent: June 1, 1993Assignee: Nalco Chemical CompanyInventors: Bhupati R. Patent number: 5167830Abstract: A paint detackification treatment for paint spray booths include a water soluble polymer which is a dicyanadiamide formaldehyde condensation product in combination with multivalent metal salt, preferably aluminum chlorohydrate. The composition is added to the overspray collection tanks and acts to detackify particles of paint which are collected in a water curtain. The combination of the dicyanadiamide formaldehyde and aluminum chlorohydrate permits a lower concentration of polymer to be used and also permits this detackification product to be used with a wide variety of aqueous and oil based paints.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1991Date of Patent: December 1, 1992Assignee: Diversey CorporationInventor: Charles Ficker
