  • Patent number: 6158592
Abstract: A high pressure spin-on filter cartridge utilizes an end plate which is strengthened by four substantially triangular shaped gussets which project from an annular U-shaped bridge that supports an internally threaded hub member. The internally threaded hub member provides an outlet for the filter cartridge while a plurality of radially positioned inlet openings are positioned between the gussets. The gussets extend radially past a sealing gasket that seals the spin-on filter canister with a machine on which it is mounted.

  • Patent number: 6068763
Abstract: An improved, reduced waste oil filter has a concave housing having a first end, a fluid inlet port and a fluid outlet port. A concave cover is removably and sealably attached to a second end of the housing providing a closed area with which the inlet and outlet ports communicate. • Patent number: 6033578
Abstract: Method for removing an oil filter from an engine when the filter is to be replaced or removed and apparatus for assisting such oil filter removal. An air valve is positioned on the casing of the oil filter and air is injected into the volume of the oil filter surrounding the internal filter. The air displaces oil in the oil filter. This reduces the quantity of oil in the oil filter and, after the air chuck and compressed air line are removed from the air valve, allows the oil filter to be removed without dripping oil on the floor of the garage or on the operator performing the servicing of the oil filter.

Abstract: The addition of a bracket type fin attachment to the current design of internal combustion engine oil filters to enhance removal of the oil filter, at replacement time, is the advantage of my new design. This attachment can be molded into the external wall of the oil filter, in addition to many other manufacturing methods, in order to achieve this basic idea. The molded attachment can be sold as a separate unit, similar to the oil filter wrench, although much different in design, and can be reused. The Easily Removable Oil Filter Attachment is for use with all sizes and types of engine oil filters, including: automobiles, boats, trucks, motorcycles and airplanes.

  • Patent number: 5725031
Abstract: An oil filter (10) includes a colloidal suspension (12) of PTFE particles less than 2 microns in size retained by capillary forces within the intricacies of the filter media (26) until the filter (10) is installed and engine oil flows at first engine start up following installation. The PTFE colloidal suspension (12) is completely and immediately released into the engine lubricating system when oil flow is initiated. The PTFE colloidal suspension (12) is introduced into the oil filter (10) as one of the last manufacturing steps. Oil filter (10) is disposed vertically with its outlet port (14) at the top. A quantity of the PTFE colloidal suspension is introduced into the outlet port (14) to initially fill a portion of the volume defined by a centertube (18) and a retainer (16). The PTFE colloidal suspension passes through openings (20,24) into contact with filter media (26).

  • Patent number: 5690816
Abstract: A filter cartridge has an annular filter dement retained within a housing by an end plate. The end plate has a central outlet and a plurality of inlet holes mounted or the end plate is an annular valve support which supports an annular valve member disposed between the valve support and the filter cartridge. A coil spring urges the annular filter member against the valve member which, in turn, engages the valve support and urges the valve support against the end plate. The valve support has an inner sleeve portion which seats against the end plate and an outer sleeve portion with holes therethrough. The valve member has an expandable collar portion which normally seals the bypass holes and a skirt portion which normally seals the inlet holes. When the filter is filtering lubricating oil for an internal combustion engine, the skirt is deflected by pressurized lubricating oil and flows around and through the filter element before passing out of the central outlet in the end plate.

Abstract: A spin-on filter assembly for filtering engine coolant has a transparent plastic container attached to a cover plate by an annular joint. The annular joint is formed by an annular trough in the cover plate, which annular trough has a lip which overlies a radial flange on the transparent plastic container. A filter element is disposed within the container and is urged by a coil spring against an end plate which abuts the cover plate. The end plate has a threaded central outlet opening and a plurality of spaced inlet openings which are accessed through a recess in the cover plate. The spin-on filter assembly is mounted in the coolant system of an internal combustion engine by a hollow threaded stud.

Coolant passes through the filter, and then is exposed to the tip of a rod which erodes away to permit treatment material to be discharged in the coolant. As the corrosiveness of the coolant decreases, erosion of the rod is discontinued, so that additional treatment material is no longer discharged into the coolant.
