Patent number: 5787729Abstract: A baffle or deflector having a cone-shaped baffle. Refrigerant fluid enters through the apex and flows through the deflector toward the inner wall of a vessel in an air-conditioning system. The laminar flow of refrigerant fluid against the inner wall separates the liquid and vapor components of the refrigerant fluid. Radial openings in the deflector allow the outlet tube to pass by the deflector. The amount of refrigerant fluid used in the system can be maximized while the size of the vessel can be minimized.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1997Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Assignee: Automotive Fluid Systems, Inc.Inventor: Halim Wijaya

Patent number: 5246574Abstract: A process and apparatus for treating and disposing of solid pollutants contained in liquids, in particular paint residues in water and/or solvents. The apparatus includes a power-driven heat-resistant surface formed by a turntable, a feed funnel for feeding liquid and/or paste containing solids onto the heat-resistant surface of the support table, a burner mounted underneath the support table for heating the heat-resistant surface of the support table, extracting ducts including a fan for removing the gases and vapors generated during the heat treatment of the liquid and/or paste containing solids, and removing blades for removing dried solids which remain on said heat-resistant support surface. All of the aforedescribed mechanisms and ducts can be mounted in a heat insulating housing.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1992Date of Patent: September 21, 1993Inventor: Klaus Jorgens

Patent number: 5215660Abstract: A filter drier (10) for an air conditioning or refrigeration system, has a body (12) with an interior area (20). The unit has an inlet opening (24) and an outlet opening (30). The outlet opening is in connection with an outlet tube (34) that extends substantially the length of the interior of the body. Donut shaped housings (54, 56) holding particles of desiccant material, are sandwiched between a first baffle (36) and a second baffle (72). The housings have an upper filter pad (58) of rigid, coarse fiber material, and a filter bag (62) of fine, flexible fiber material. In each housing, the filter bag is attached to the filter pad about its outer periphery at a seam (66), and at a seam (68) which is adjacent an opening (60) in the pad, through which the outlet tube extends. The filter bags of the donut shaped housings are deformed upon assembly to insure contact with the inner wall of the housing and the exterior surface of the outlet tube.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1992Date of Patent: June 1, 1993Assignee: Parker Hannifin CorporationInventors: William M. Patent number: 5089119Abstract: A filter for the lubricating oil and refrigerant within refrigerators, freezers and heat pumps is provided which does not interfere with the cooling cycle. The filter utilizes a housing with an orifice that functions as an outlet and an inlet for the transfer of fluids. The filter withdrawn fluids from a location between the compressor and the condenser when the compressor cycles on and returns the fluids when the compressor cycles off. Preferred embodiments of this invention provide for the release of additives to the fluids from the filter material. Also provided by the invention are vapor compression cycle devices which incorporate such a filter and a method of filtering said fluids.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1989Date of Patent: February 18, 1992Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: James Day, Arnold Factor, Charles E. Patent number: 4908132Abstract: An impact and vibration resistent receiver dehydrator for use in a refrigeration or air conditioning system includes a body (10) enclosing a desiccant core (24). The core includes a projection (32) at a first end and a flat face (38) at a second end. The projection is nested in a resilient core support (50) which in turn is supported by a spring loaded baffle plate (56). The resilient core support is positioned in a recess (58) in the baffle plate. The baffle plate includes a radially extending flange (60) which serves to hold the baffle plate and first end of the core in fixed position relative to the interior of said receiver dehydrator body. The face of the second end of the core is supported by a perforated disc (42). A compressible filter pad (46) is positioned between the disc and the core. The filter pad wraps around the edge (40) of the core and serves to space and cushion the core from the interior of the body.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1989Date of Patent: March 13, 1990Assignee: Parker Hannifin CorporationInventors: Richard Koval, Robert C. Patent number: 4609458Abstract: A device in which moisture-adsorbing material that adsorbs moisture dissolved in oil and the electrical resistance of which decreases in accordance with the amount of moisture adsorbed, is immersed in circulating oil supplied to machinery and is connected to a sensor that outputs a signal when the electrical resistance of the material falls below a given preset value. This moisture-adsorbing material absorbs moisture not yet dissociated from the oil, and removes the moisture from the oil, preventing deterioration of the oil. Moreover, because the sensor electrically detects the decline in the adsorptive strength of the moisture-absorbing material as the amount of moisture adsorbed increases, upon depletion of this adsorptive capability the material can be rapidly replaced, permitting the moisture content of the oil to be held below a given value.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1984Date of Patent: September 2, 1986Assignees: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki Kaisha, Mac Incorporated, Okaya and Co., Ltd.Inventors: Itsuji Okamura, Hiroaki Matushita, Kiyoshi Murata

Patent number: 4474661Abstract: A filter dryer for refrigeration systems includes a generally tubular molded desiccant core therein. The central opening of the core is sealed and one end thereof supported by a forced-in plastic ball which itself is retained in a seat dimpled in the inlet baffle.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1983Date of Patent: October 2, 1984Assignee: Parker-Hannifin CorporationInventors: Gary A. Patent number: 4029580Abstract: A filter-drier unit adapted for bidirectional flow in heat pump systems. This filter-drier unit includes an individual filter-drier in each compartment formed on opposite sides of a partition in a shell. A conduit connects the inlet of each filter-drier with the compartment other than the one in which the filter-drier is located. A check valve is connected to the outlet of each filter-drier to enable flow into the compartment in which the filter-drier is located and to preclude backflow, whereby flow into either one of the compartments through an associated shell port passes by the filter-drier in the said one compartment and through the inlet of the filter-drier in the other compartment, and thence into the said other compartment and out through its associated shell port. In one embodiment, the individual filter-driers and the fittings attaching the filter-driers to the partition are relatively laterally offset in the shell.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1976Date of Patent: June 14, 1977Assignee: Sporlan Valve CompanyInventor: Harold T.
